Wind Problem
01/31/15 3:31 AM

I've recently upgraded my gpx-250 to a zx-14r.

I love everything about the bike - but find that at high speeds, i seem to get knocked around by the wind a fair bit - Mostly the shoulders and helmet.

Bike is mostly stock - changes are two brothers slip-ons, and zero gravity double bubble windshield. No other cosmetic changes.

Any advice on what i may be able to do to help this? I'm not too sure on a longer screen, the zg one is already quite tall.

I really like my extra tall screen. I'm 5'9"

The standard height screen directs air into middle of my chest while in normal riding position. The taller screen direct air into the center of my helmet (nose level)

Buffeting at elevated speeds is reduced greatly as is wind noise. It's also easier to tuck in behind when insane speeds are called.

Some people don't like the look of it but I don't mind it.

This one is by Eagle Screens.

I only just realised i got the stock windscreen with the bike. I'll need to put it on and have a ride.

I actually get itchy from my jacket kind of flapping on me when riding. Seems to irritate after 160kmh.

Friends blackbird is unbelievably smooth. At 240 with a slight hunch, i dont get enough air on me to cool down.
On my 14, at 240+ i feel like i'm going to fall apart, even if i'm laying on the tank.

At 6'4 I had the same problem. Changed to a MRA screen and solved it for me.
Do a search under screens and you will see all the comments on this topic, there are various opinions on different screens.

Kawasaki/MRA spoiler screen.
Im 6'3" and this screen makes a major difference to wind and helmet buffering at high speeds.

Not sure what type of helmet you wear, but get a helmet thats meant to be worn in the tuck position. I have a bell rs-1 and a arai corsair v, the arai is much more stable than the rs1 at high speeds. If you can keep your head from bouncing around your whole body will feel better.

Can't agree more, helmet makes a big difference. my Shark Is happy at high speeds with no buffeting. They do have a bit of wind noise though.

Agreed on the helmet suggestions. One reason I want a different helmet.

Also check your jacket. If it's loose fitting it will also flap and amplify that buffeting feeling.

Basically 6'2 over here. I run zero grav, mark 1. Many people complain it is the screen that leaves one most exposed to the elements. I have an Arai CorsairV and gear that fits snug, WHEN I burn I lie down in tuck. I have not experienced any wild buffeting like you. However I have a helmet that has a "war hawk" saw blade. And when I wear that wow, I am knocked around.

Maybe it's gear, helmet and tall windscreen.

The only wind problem I have is when Beast and I stop for Tacos on bike night!
