I am going to guess the factory rail + factory fuel hose volume is what is causing some of that tip-in richness. You can tune it out, but probably not on the stock ECU. I had my tuner work on my bike twice to try and clean up the same thing you're explaining. I had the RCC fuel system going to the OEM fuel rail and ID1050XDS injectors. They are very large injectors. Usually people use them to run E85 + Pump 93. They flow a LOT. I got an Adams rail. I did the same as you (as seen in the previous pictures) where I used the OEM lower gaskets on the injectors. I didn't use a spacer for the rail though. I just have long bolts securing the rail with exposed threads.

Fuel pressure pulsation is another thing to look into. 4 large injectors opening and closing fast, using a small fuel rail as their source of pressure/fuel, creates a lot of turbulence and pressure differentials. There are such things as fuel pressure dampers to relieve that, but usually it is not going to cure the situation you're in either, just help it a little. I may end up adding a damper to my fuel system if my pressures aren't reading clean. Theoretically, drivability will increase with my new beefier fuel system.

Trailer wiring will come this weekend. I have the time to take it right now, but there's no way to tow it. Bummer. Trying to hurry so it's not rotting at Boomstune for too terribly long. I know the busy season is starting up. Looking like maybe next friday I can make the trip? unless i just do it overnight on a weeknight.

March 3, 2026

Bike dropped off at Boomstune for:
-MaxxEcu Tune
-Swapping SAE Outlaw Headstuds to APE
-Installing HD Cam Chain
-Degree cams
-Starter upgrade

Will end up having power modes, and will scale the power according to power mode as well as ethanol content.
Max power- 500hp
Low power- 300hp

I didn't feel like tearing into the engine again. The time/expertise/cost/margin for error made sense to pay Boomstune to do it. Small cost to also have his blessing on the rest of the engine build.

Estimated pickup date will be Mid-April. I probably won't be on here too much as work has picked up and so has my desire to find someone to ride on the back of the bike. I'll poke in every now and then still.

Also, note to others- don't clean your chain by spinning the back wheel fast and dragging a rag over the chain... doing so will result in getting your fingers between the sprocket and chain.... Fun 2am E.R. visit. Thankfully I have my fingers still. Unless things don't heal well. I can't even ride if I wanted to

Jeeziz H dude! ........

You're too young to know the gruesome pics left on a forum by a guy who cleaned his chain with the motor running. He lost his fingers and we all saw it. The general internet is sanitized now. Good on you for spreading the warning. I'm very happy you still have fingers and I'm confident they will heal back completely but it may be years before they're 100%.

I don't mean to creep people out, I just want to offer the opportunity to learn from information instead of by experience.

There's a particular somberness I feel for people who hurt themselves by pursuing their passion. LOL ...although I've been a victim myself. Glad I lived to tell about it and learned my lesson.

As for finding the pillion rider, you have a lot going for you i didn't have at your age. You have a a decent job, you look good, you're bright.....you're a catch! ...you just are shy a few fingers right now. Get on those dating apps but really, do it the old fashioned way where you actually meet someone face to face and you tell her you like her. You'll see it when it happens. I would mention the bike but I would pick her up in the cage and take her out for a nice dinner. The bike will come into it later.

I got lucky and really only got my pinky finger in the sprocket. I got my ring finger all twisted up in the rag so I have some aching joints, but that particular finger was already the victim of 'jersey finger' from playing football. Pinky is healing up very very well. I've been on top of cleaning and correctly medicating it. Seems like I lost the nerves in the top portion of the finger. I can bend it normal, just can't feel. Weird sensation.

For the record, I discovered I have been using 6 purple brock's clutch springs for the gen 2 ZX14 with my lockup. Makes for a tougher lever pull than OEM, but I like the solid feeling and how the clutch engages with it. Also doesn't slip before or after the lockup engages.

Found this picture of the bike from October. Looking forward to getting it back together. After seeing a friend's Montgomery Headlight Deletes with the added 2 Projector bulbs, I am looking forward to the 12 pound weight reduction + ease of fairing install + reduction of squeaks and headlights bouncing.

I like the headlight delete inserts too.

Any idea how much the light weighs in one of these delete inserts?

Also, Looks like they fasten to the stock headlight bracket. There needs to be a CF headlight bracket to go with it!

Why not AGM? They're a little less expensive than Montgomery.

I'm really glad to hear your fingers are coming back to life. Thanks for sharing the story. It's important to have a discussion about this on the forum from time to time.

They mount to the inside of the nose fairing. Headlights weigh 1.5 pounds with the LED's installed. OEM headlights are at least 10 pounds.

I ended up going with the montgomery ones because they have an actual projector headlight in them. The others just have LED dots. The montgomery set can reliably replace the headlights and let you drive at night. Also they will me pass my local inspection because I can switch my highbeam on/off and turn off one of the lights. You sacrifice a little lighting versus a fully HID bulb setup in the OEM housings, but its a reasonable tradeoff in terms of simplicity and weight loss.

I also buckled and got a set of Galfer rotors for the front... More than I wanted to spend.. by far. My OEMs shake pretty bad, regardless of pads I use. I want to feel like I can stop 500hp. Vibrating OEMs arent the most assuring sensation. I still have my OEM rear brake setup on my garage wall. But the bike looks very neat and not busy with no wires or lines running to the rear wheel. I dont know where I will land with the rear brake, whether I will install it or not.

Time to sit back and save up money for the upgrade bill in about a month. With the brake rotors and headlight deletes ordered, I can't think of anything I absolutely need or could want on the bike, purchasable. Hopefully nothing breaks on the dyno or in the near future. I am not interested in any more expenses at the moment.

I have a feeling those projector beam lights are going to be a bit heavier than LED dots but if you need to keep the bike street legal, the projector beams are the way to go. Now that I look at it, the Montgomery lights look way better. The AGM ones actually look like little yellow dots you'd stick on the bike. The Montgomery ones look a lot better. I'd probably go with just a single light on the RH side. I haven't ridden at night in years. ...heck IDK, maybe I'd order two lefts, one with a light and one without. I'm quite sure I'd go with Montgomery though. I saw something like this on Gixxer about 17 years ago and it looked really cool. Definitely visible in the daytime too.

I'll have spent about $500 on stuff for the bike this winter. I'm redoing the tail light and indicators in smoked LEDs. ...maybe I'll top it off with some Montgomery Motorsports headlight deletes.

...and I'll need two because I leave for work at 5:30 am. We have one month of ok light at that hour. It just kills me to not have the best weight loss I can get.

if you don't care about having lights, check these out. Not as fancy as the carbon fiber ones, but they are priced lower and accomplish the same thing.

Cool but I would want at least one headlight so I don't get stopped by the cops and towed. I guess you could bolt some kind of bright light on the mirror mount and take it off when you want the bike to weigh three ounces less.

I was actually brainstorming making my own headlight deletes with fiberglass or polymer clay and epoxy resin for the LED headlight (that may or may not have worked for night riding). For five or six hundred bucks, I'll let someone else do the molding and casting and figuring out the light. I have a little money to spend I didn't several years back so my time is more valuable now. One thing I would have done is smooth out the city light. Why have that bulbous thing if there is no city light?

Someday, I might experiment with making my own CF parts. It actually doesn't require very high temperature to cure. I think small parts like muffler hangers would be pretty easy to make. I already know how to make plaster and latex molds. Guess it depends on the cost of raw carbon fiber. ...and of course, how much time it would take to learn because my time is worth money. It would be really cool to be able to make a part if nobody else has it to offer for sale though....like the ZX-14 headlight bracket.

I've thought about cast aluminum too for smaller parts. Years back, there was online machine shop that would make anything for you. It's probably still running. There you go, your time or your money.

What’s the reason for swapping out the sae headstands for APE?

Is the oem starter giving you problems?

SAE Headstuds break around 450HP according to Ringtuned Performance, who right now, is known for having the fastest roll-racing zx14 around (550hp). I am not interested in the risk of running the studs since I will be at 500hp.

Boomstune (my tuner) told me that these bikes with the maxxecu and all the accessories on them result in some hard/long cranking to start up. Big electrical load. He is converting my starting system to 24v.

I see. Here I was thinking the sae head studs might be better than the ape ones. Will he have to pull the motor to swap them?

Will you need to run a different battery?

Will you be using a upgraded oem starter or does someone make one designed for 24v?

Yep, he is pulling the motor since he is also installing HD cam chain and degreeing the cams. Thats all the work he's got to do to the engine, unless he says something else is needing attention.

OEM starter will be used. It'll spin at 2x the normal speed (theoretically) but how much life will really be sacrificed doing this? I have never heard of a starter going out on these or the concourse. If they do, Schnitz sells a cheap upgraded replacement too.

With the drain on the electrical system from all the added sensors, intercooler water pump, and air compressor, I would rather the bike start comfortably at the small cost of increased maintenance... If maintenance was my worry, I would've stopped at 300hp. I am already on track to change tires and oil/filter every 1-2k miles... Assuming nothing breaks, or I don't buy more parts to slap on it.

I imagine he will just wire in a small lithium battery in series with the OEM wiring to the starter. The additional starter battery will need to be charged on a tender when I am not riding. Thankfully the battery will only be used for 1-2 seconds at a time, so the charge should last a few weeks of riding it once a day, at least. If it really comes down to it, I have no issue DIY wiring the charging system to the battery. I would be surprised if the second battery doesn't have a BMS to control charging.

You have warm temperatures almost year round, right? Here, we're just emerging out of our dens. We had a huge rain just yesterday. The salt is washed off the roads. I could ride but there's a chance it might snow again and set everything back. The 14R isn't ready but I need to get that new busa home. Whatever your timeline ends up being, I'm still here watching.

Montgomery Headlight Deletes installed. Fitment leaves a little to be desired... Not sure anyone will notice when they're on the bike. The pair weighs 1.5 lbs. Not sure what the old ones weigh, but it's significantly more than these carbon ones. Weight difference feels like going from lead battery to lithium. Also no headlight bracket used anymore. Delete plates install onto backside of the fairing and that is all.

Still no word from tuner. Motorcycle tracker tells me that the bike hasn't moved in a few weeks

I see a sliver of light peeking out on the bottom corner. If that's the fitment issue, I wouldn't worry about it. No way is that going to be visible when the top cowl is installed. It might have even been intentional to make sure the inserts do fit. I can't wait to get mine! Those look great!

If the headlight fitment really bothers me, I can always run a bead of silicone around the lens to seal it up good. Also, you need to put superglue on part of the led projector housing. there is a plastic pin that holds things together. This pin fell out on my buddy's bike. Also his adjustment bolts have come loose. I am going to put threadlocker on the adjustment bolts and take pictures of the superglue on the pin so anyone else can do the same, if needed.

Hand is all better now. Still a little numb section where i guess the nerves got cut. and my nail will probably grow weird forever. But it's ready to pull the clutch in...

Weather out here is getting into the 90's and sunny. Has been perfect weather for a month already. Thinking about buying a '17+ GSXR1000 just to scratch the itch

Asked the tuner for a clarification on timeline. I am not holding my breath on getting it back for another month or so. The other bikes like mine he had planned on breaking down and building are also behind schedule. Tuner has been at events all over the country for a few weeks. Not sure when he has been back home to work on stuff in the past month
