Hey Hub, as of January 1, we no longer have motor vehicle safety inspections in Texas, so I could give slicks a try, the biggest objection on the forums was keeping heat in the tires between corners, as you can see from my videos, long straights and then a series of corners is more the norm here, also the issue of heat cycles was brought up.

Another Mad Max video in the California canyons, looks like a fun ride, where is this? I have a road nearby with similar corner speeds but not the elevation change.

These group ride videos make me cringe, too many squids with no protective gear doing stupid shit and what was a guy like Josh Herrin doing riding with those yahoos?

I have a lot of respect for Herrin but you'd think a guy of his caliber would avoid these kind of rides?

Hub, this guy is Michael Dunlop/Peter Hickman fast, he needs to go do the Isle of Man TT for sure, I doubt he could win the Senior TT on his first try but for sure fastest newcomer?

That is an old school, high pipe R1 he's riding, circa around 2008, on slicks, ancient tech and you can tell its been down more times than Kamala Harris. Respekt!

My question is how does this guy not have the C.H.P. waiting at his house after posting vids like this? He's got a well known Youtube presence, it's not like no one knows who the guy is.

Stock tires are hard compounds. Sports are mediums. Race is soft. So soft will heat faster. Especially in the summer months. Say the asphalt is 170F and you tire warm the heat to the 190's say. Just the heat of the road alone will warm the slicks up. Riding is going to cool off the sides so you're safe anyway you look at it... sans the wet.

Kruz, around here are big valleys. But you can leave the valley in say 11 miles across. So there are canyons after canyons you can snake thru.

Say where I live, you can only take a canyon to get to the beach, the next county, or city. You'd love it here road wise. Ask Cali Boy about all that's around the LA county valley.

As far as the canyons OG Squid go are farther south from me. But there are canyons only going in and out of each city were I live and that says Sheriff and state police cars sweeping up my neck of the woods, and one sweep past one of those guys could mean a reckless ticket and limited mileage privileges, if not pulled the license for a year and take the bus.

I think it's so relaxed chasing the hot rods around here, they have better things to do than chase OG Squids. The odds will catch up to them eventually. LOL

A long time ago when I used to swing to the Rock Store, the neighbor across from the store would come out of their driveway and aim for the bikers that came their way. Surprised me when it happened. I run stock pipes LOL.

Good stuff to know Hubmeister, I think I'll try the slicks this season on at least one of the bikes and see if there is any improvement. Can I get away without using tire warmers?

Speaking of warmers, it is COLD here for next several weeks, running up the entire fleet to keep the oil stirred up and batteries charged until warmer weather....

Non-warmers takes about 3 laps and then pin it. I have brand new slicks I'm going to mount on the 14. Took a ride last week to my sister and rode into fog/rain on the freeway. I'm thinking I hit that, it's pullover time under a bridge. Here comes a chippie and sees those mounted... I think it's a fix-it ticket and have it signed off with DOT's.

You'd have to cook those from not condensing in the mufflers, or the crankcase. It's almost on full temp (160F) or until the fans kick in.

Hub, I run 'em up to about 210-220F until cooling fan kicks in and then shut down.

Slicks sound good, I think I'll give them a try on one of my bikes and see how they work.

But boy was I lucky the other day. Have a temp plate for the Indian, yesterday get a letter from the DMV about not paying fees. Just the day before, I ordered a part for a bike, and also to ask what is the hang up on my plate and title?

DMV says we'll have the bike on a hook if I leave it parked in the street, let alone ride it. The dealer charged me for DMV fees, and the excuse was they needed the frame number or "family number" off the bike.

So I picked up my part today, brought in the sales slip showing paid DMV fees. The DMV letter stating 'Fees' and not some lame ass frame number that is already on the sales slip.

I'd be waiting longer if I didn't show the sales guy about it. Passed on the hook not seeing one cop on the road that day, eyeing that paper license plate with the month of NOV printed on it.

Dang, what a mess Hub, glad you have it all sorted now. Stay out of the canyons for a while until the fires settle down...
