Winter Project
11/18/11 11:45 AM

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, Hub and the rest of you... The season of giving thanks and giving is almost upon us and for most that means its time to put the 14 into hibernation mode for the next couple of months!!

So I'm wondering during this down time what will be your bike projects and proposed bike projects for the winter?

Also what do you do in the winter to take the place of riding?

I'll go first:

My winter project is going to be simple; new spark plugs, K&N air filter, thinking of wrapping the exhaust pipes, going with the Bazzazz power commander also going to upgrade the brake lines and change the pads... Anything else?

As for winter activities, I have yet to decide, probably try to go skiing again and just be consistent with it!

How about you?

NICE!... I've got a '94...

It's torn apart, and takin' up my lift ATM... So it's first priority...

Sold it 5 years ago... bought it back 6 months ago... and am restoring it to the condition it was in before I sold it.

Other projects:

10r is getting the suspension upgraded, some race skins, quickshifter, shift star, and few other bolt ons.

zx14 is getting a shift star, Muzzy oil pump cover, and possibly some head work & bored TB's... depends on my willpower to resist getting a 2012.

Other activites:

Don't know that there will be time for anything else!

Dogo where are you getting the replacement plastics from? I've looked and called all the places I know, and they have nothing for those years.. I love the grey burgundy and black look...

NinjaMaster what are you doing with the ZX-7?

Parts are a PITA to find for the old B's!
Did you check with AirTech?

I'm just repairing and repainting what I have... I have extra right and left sides, if you need 'em... Couple cracks, but easily repairable... lemme know.

Wish I had the skill to pull off copying the factory paint... single stage/single color is all I'm good for... I don't wanna spend the $$$ to have it done professionaly... Have already, pretty much, decided I'm going to sell the bike when it's finished. Will lose atleast $1500 on the deal... but worth it, to me.

You know where to find some good, reasonably priced, front rotors?... Mine are THRASHED! I found a set of Brembos on closeout, but when they showed up they did not fit... so sent 'em back.

Wrenching as much as I can stand it out in the cold. The 14 is pretty up to date. Just some levers and maybe wheels. Could be on before winter really hits. The busa will be more involved as it is bone stock now.

I'll be writing a lota how tos to go with my hundreds of wrenching pics I took over the past few months. Hope you guys don't all go out and buy a 2012....but I imagine much of that you would still be able to use Gen 1 How Tos with.

Speaking of rotors...the new bird is supposed to have a newly designed/material in the rotors...plus newly designed pads as well.Guess we won't be hitting warp speed again! Now it'll be...uhm....well....something other than WARP!!!!Can't wait to try out my 'locked front brake in a curve' scenario See how this new Ktrc REALLY works

WOW, improved brakes! Now I am really starting to think that is overkill. Have never been able to ride beyond the braking power of this bike. Still, always cool to have more.

Dogo There is a place in Lester, Pa right outside of Philadelphia called A&J Cycle Salvage http://www.ajcyclesalvage.com/ they usually have a big supply of parts they just don't have the plastics!

definitely interested in the plastics email me pics if you can!!

ease127 @ aol . com

I pretty much want them no matter what they look like, lol ....

Rook I might add some levers over the winter too... which ones are you going with? And I'm sticking with my 08, if I upgrade I will still keep my 08, so your "How Tos" will always be needed!

Well Privateer....you know the new Ktrc is responding to front and back wheel conditions.So.....you can take it from there. You mean you've never practiced a locked front wheel while leaned over?At 120?Very similar to a locked rear wheel leaned over at 120.Need a bit more finesse however with that frontend.

Well I've done just about everything I can to my girl....So I'm going to tackel the valve job this winter with 22,000 I should be close to needing it. Would love to add the power comander quick shifter but don't want to hurt the gear box or have hassles down the road with reliability.

Oh, I do SO know what you mean. One year, think it was my second year working on my ZX14, I didn't get it back on the road until May because it was too freaking cold all winter. Not just 3 feet of snow on the ground all winter, but near zero temperatures to boot.

I would have the kerosene (you know I love kerosene, right?) space heater going in the garage and it wouldn't make a dent in the cold. Laying on the rubber mat, which is on the concrete floor, was plain painful.

We need to insulate our garages so we can heat them.

Well, you should, I'm not doing that stuff anymore. Anything that gets done to my C14, the dealer or Tri-State Motorcycles is doing it.

Not me, locking up (definition: zero rotation) the front wheel while leaned over = crash.

Maybe I did do it, once, when I lowsided my ZX11 at speed on an uphill turn. It happened so fast I just can't remember. Riding.... bouncing.

Unfortunately, KTRC will not cause you to let go of the brake lever if you do lock it, and it might take power away which will drop you like a stone.

Not something I've ever had the urge to do. I do use the rear brake while leaned over, but again, never to the point it locks up. Just enough to settle the chassis down, aka trail braking.

I got an insulated room with a oil filled heater and a lift and I still find it hard to go out and work on the bike in the winter. I think it's from working outside all day. Usually I just keep it heated for Bob Marley my garage cat so he has a warm place to go.
It's not the biggest. Curious to see how much room after I get the big Harley in there.

as for projects unfortunately no 14 so I got to settle with installing HIDs on the electra glide, a mechless stereo, rockford foz speakers, the rear SS brake line, and maybe some custom paint if I get motivated enough.

Fingers crossed that AirTech is still producing aftermarket skins for our old B's... There were a couple of seriously forked up uppers on ebay, last I checked. lol

I already had my 14 re-sprayed(satin black)which was a big project. I just changed my muzzy slip ons to voo-doo's so my first project is to install my pcv. Then I'm adding new wheels, brake lines, rear-sets, seat, air filter, grips, sprocket, hid's/demon eyes & a few other do-dads.
