Dye touch up leathers
02/16/15 12:50 PM

Hey guys, I have an older (15 year) Hein Gericke leather race coat that I absolutely love, however some of the white leather trim is getting rather nasty and beyond a good cleaning. Has anyone either re-dyed their leather or even possibly paint it with some flexible acrylic? I really hate to replace this coat, I am not trying to be cheap, they just don't make anything like this anymore.

I think acrylic will last a while but it will crack if it's being flexed. You will have to apply a thicker coat with white to cover. I'd try a leather dye. I recall hearing favorable opinions of that stuff but don't know any brands to suggest.

Threadjack!!!!

On a related note, the toe areas of my AStar S-MX boots are wearing out enough to expose the midsole, but the rest of the boots look like they should be good for another season.

Is there some kind of repair that will re-seal worn parts? Some kind of substance?

Hey! I was buying some new Carhartts yesterday and they had a product for exactly what I need for my boots!

Tooncinator, contact Aplinestars. I had my boots repaired, resole, and zipper replacement, for a very reasonable price. Worth checking. Think they turned them around in a week.

Hi T T
In the UK we use "Fienbings" leather dye. You need a couple of coats to let it soak in, but it is real good.
You can find it on Amazon.
