Hey Rook, maybe you could help coordinate something in the midwest. I know we got members all over so coordinating around schedules will be key which is why we talked about maybe having three events (east, midwest, west) to get members together, then maybe plan for one big for everyone to try and reach. At least during the winter months we have time to plan...

I'd love to meet up with all or any of you guys, but I just think scheduling would be a nightmare. Instead of one maybe 2 or 3 loosely arranged throughout the summer might be more feasible and give everyone a chance to meet other members. Just my 2cents because work kind of dictates my summer Usually it not a problem.

What? No talk of a So Cal run? This can't be! I'm down for a run here in California! What about the rest of the So Cal people here? Where are you guys at?

ZX14 Bros....The poll is showing good interest. Bearszx72...I think depending on the area of the states with the most member interest would determine if a ride/rally makes sense to do in that area. Obviously a member in that area would have to take the lead to plan what would works best for members in that area such as the actual ride, destinations & lodging.
The poll was just a start to get us talking for at least one ride and like OTRFAB said maybe it's three loosely arranged meetups, one ride in each geograghical area of the US with most member interest to build a ride/rally around the interest. I would just add that this land of ours is huge so it will take many active members to make anything happen. Now that winter is here, we have several months to pull something together........

Shogun1, so true, so true. I was just commenting on the fact that no one from Southern California has made any comment (good or bad) about doing one here in California or for that matter the west coast. I am down for this as long as I have the time off from work and the advance notice to make all the proper arrangements for a trip. Let's do it!

If there's interest in a group meeting up near Salt Lake City, we could plan it around a track day at Miller Motorsports Park (for those might be interested in riding that). I understand that there are some great mountain roads in the area. The Yamaha Champions Riding School folks led a ride there before the World Superbike race this year. I could probably find out what routes they took. -bg

Bgordon...I think that's a cool idea and if I was closer to the midwest area you could count me in; even more so for a SoCal ride with Bears. I think having several events planned in each area is the way to go instead of one major ride.
I know we have a thread called "Ride Report" which is more for reporting after the ride. Maybe we need another thread called "2011 Ride Meetup Events" so any member can post a major ride/rally event in their area and members would only post if they planned to attend. I think this would make an easier approach to getting members together for 2011...Any thoughts?

Yep, I've been down here in South Florida with 178hp since 2004 on a company move from SoCal, this is one of the most flat, straight and square tire areas in the union, and I would definitely attend a [Southeast] regional gig. I have no idea how many ZX14s are out there, and if the numbers aren't large enough, perhaps combine with like-minded models/groups or expand such an event descriptor to include a larger demographic i.e. "sport touring and knee draggers".
By the way, while COG might get a fairly "one shade of blue" type of rider demographic (i.e. 35-60 touring/sport touring/commuter rider), the ZX14 enthusiast community may be much more varied. (i.e. in my experience, owners can be fairly divided up in to three groups, with many individuals mixing between groups to some degree; "visuals" (sometimes called posers to some, tons of effort and coin in the visual side of ownership that in some extreme cases tends to reduce aspects of a bikes performance, chromed stretched frames, etc.), "technicals" (club racers, club draggers, technical gear/engine heads, they are wrapped up in machine potential and, often, employing it) and Iron Asses (like my brother, he commutes in any weather, rides just to ride period - no fan fare, he rides within the envelope, he may low side with a passengers on the back exiting a corner on gas and not know why it happened because he won't even pick up a book on the technicals, but he racks up 20,0000 miles a year more than others, and otherwise safely...Go to a cruiser bike week event such as Key West and you will get the same 3 demographic mix generally in Harley, metric and chopper forms. Why do I mention this? If you want max numbers the event would have some attraction for all three, or omit the interests of such groups.
Perhaps someone who started this good idea needs to "suggest" a graphical regionalizing of the U.S. (west, mid, east) to give some initial geographical form to the concept, and push ahead with such an event in one of their regions if enough members are interested...others too far (other regions) will perhaps take up the torch to put some feelers out in their regions...put up regional polls to research rider/participant counts, then explore potential locations, dates that factor in Wx forecasts/competing events, advertise it on forums, etc.
I already paid this price "in spades" in my lifetime I'm afraid - We did this in my warbird assoc (a national aircraft association) with a four day annual event called "All Red Star" in California, vendors, tents, security, hotel deals...the national org. developed 3 main regions, we had the numbers to further break events up in to each region generally "north and south". These are 3 day weekend events. Now every year we have volunteers "hosting" these aviation gatherings based on their regional membership/participants. We have often talked of one national convention, but the workload is too daunting and aviation fuel to expensive...Any folks of course who have more time and gas money can fly to any event they want. We teach formation flight skills at our events, ZX14 owners group may may want to locate events at famous road/ride areas (duh!), or at a motorsportspark with road and drag strips to teach starts, 1/4 mile times and cornering skills, etc. beyond beer drinking, friendship, strip clubs and near endless "there I was" stories...Whatever the location, we found in our experience it can't be too isolated, a run down RV park with nothing but a motel 8 6 miles away in a dead town tends to "under-perform" for groups of varied interests.
Southeast/Mid Atlantic Regions are a shack: Event located around deals gap...Blue Ridge...somewhere in the Appalachians
The Northeast has beautiful Main, river rafting, New York mountains, etc.
The Southwest Region has endless incredible spots, pick one in any post card town in the Sierra Nevada mtns.
Northwest has SLC area, incredible mountain destinations
Midwest N/S?....
Good luck!

By the way, I also would like to thank all those ZX14 owners that chimed in last few months on my several posts and helped me with information on several mods recently completed:
HID lights, Brocks exhaust choice, removal of flies, front fender ZX10 mod, etc.
All went well, runs cooler, performs well, lights up the road -

I'm in. me and my friends were thinking bout a cross country ride In August To California. If you guys decide to plan it in the mid west or west maybe I can sqeeze around the dates and swing by.
But deals gap and surounding areas here are amazing for rides everyday. I'm sure we could do something there and take day cruises out to drag strip somewhere. The lodges and hotels around the fontana dam area are good about great group discounts too.

Maybe around Laguna or Indy? Or around Laconia or Americade? Maybe something that lots of people are going to or want to go to. The ZRXOA guys do a big camp out on a farmers field. I can arrange that if anyone / everyone wants to come here to Vermont (awesome riding state). A meet up would be cool, but everyone knows SOMEONE'S gonna be doin some serious compromisin'. So... maybe we could make it worth his / her time / effort. You know what that means!

Im right smack dab in the middle of the country (but no, there aren't many interesting roads here)
I'm (re) building the bike to travel. So i'm down for a ride ANYWHERE (as long as i don't need a passport).
