Question about OEM emblems
01/13/15 11:57 AM

I am looking for a black OEM ninja emblem and a black OEM ZX14 or ZX14R emblem. Does anyone know what year bikes/color had black emblems? I tried ebay and that stuff is junk. As soon as I wiped across them cleaning my bike the edges peeled up. I am putting the Ninja on the front mid fairing and the ZX14 on the tail. Blacking out everything on my Candy Thunder Blue bike.

I needed new emblems after my tank and tailpiece were vandalized. They can be found on the fiche (at a dealer parts counter or on ronayers, etc). I ordered legit replacements from the dealer. They were hella expensive for what they are, but I wanted to make sure they were legit OEM. The fiche should tell you the colors of the emblems, though you make need to poke at a few different model years.

I think I found what I need. Looks like the 2009 Candy Lime Green ZX14's have black decals. I am not sure if they are 3D or flat but either will work. Yep, they cost for what they are. Looks like about $90 for four of them.

OEM stickers were outrageously priced when I checked on my busa.

I'd just get a copy of what you want and bring it to a vinyl shop. The vinyl stripes on my bike look as good as new after 5 years except a couple places where I had to pull them across tight corners.

I've bought vinyl sheets and rolls from these guys a few times. They also do logos and stuff. Good service, helpful explanation by phone.

Get a few copies so you can do a practice run or save to replace if they ever wear out.

I agree with Rook, have them made locally.
A lot of the time it's how you apply the decals that ensures they stay on.
Clean the area really well, use some alcohol swabs. Make sure it's dry and dust free.
I use a hair drier to warm them up slowly whilst applying, this helps also if you have decals going over rounded edges and contours and curves in the fairings. leave the clear film on the top on and start on one side and rub on gently from one end to the other . Once they have cooled down, peel of the clear top protective film. If there are air bubbles try rubbing them out otherwise a needle prick will get it out.
This should stay on forever.

Another way is to use water with a drop of detergent, spray this on and then put the decal in place, rub from one side to the other until all the water is out. Leave to dry and then pull the clear film off. This method can't be used for Chrome type decals.

The "Ninja" on my front fairing did not come standard on mine. I had it made locally to the same spec as OEM.
It's been on through rain, sun, sand, washing and still there as new as the day I put it there.
