So, all my riding friends were busy. I decided to just jump on the bike and go somewhere.
Got geared up and headed west down the mountain. Took Wildcat Rd and dropped down Shingletown Ridge into the valley east of Red Bluff. Temperature was perfect but heating up so I didn't want to linger. Took Lanes Valley Rd as a shortcut, knowing it's probably the worst for this bike. Narrow, dirty, bumpy as Hell but it prevents a 10 mile backtrack so I just cruised. Finally got to Hwy 36 and turned east and it's GAME ON !
This part of 36 doesn't get the attention that the western side does but it's got some really fun high speed sweeping sections as it climbs back up into the mountains. Beautiful views and dense cool forests as it gains altitude.
Just east of Mineral, I turned into the southern entrance to Lassen Volcanic Park and stopped at the Visitor Center for coffee and snacks. Fortified with caffeine, I continued on. The road was pretty empty and any cars I caught up with were easily dispatched. I stopped at an overlook and gazed south at Lake Almanor off in the distance under a blue haze.
A very nice short ride to start the day
