I was leaning towards purchasing a set of LSL frame slider pucks and mounting HW from Spiegler Performance for my new ZX-14R.
When I attempted to place the order, the drop down menu's on their website did not allow me to purchase for the 2012 model year.
I've read enough posting to lead me to believe the last model year they post as available (2011) would likely fit the 2012 model, but I called them on the phone anyway.
I got two serprising bits of info from the tech at Spiegler, on the phone.
When I asked about availability for the 2012, and whether or not the 2011 would fit, he told me the 2012 set was not yet available from LSL (I think, in Germany). He then told me he could not guarantee fitment for the 2011 set onto the 2012 model. OK, I said, I guess I'll wait until they're available. How long? Dunno....
Then I asked about the potential for damage. What I think I understand is that the LSL / Spiegler brand would likely do less damage to the engine mounts / frame in a hard impact, due to the offset of the slider with respect to the mount. OK, I'll believe that for the moment, it seems a simple matter of allowing the "offset" lever arm to "flex, or bend as it's absorbing the impact.
But, when I asked the tech rep. about this "feature", he told me that these sliders are not intended to save the fairing parts, but are strictly intended to save the (more expensive) frame and engine mount parts, when used by racing riders. The idea is: save the frame, forget the fairings. Apparently, they're not "long" enough (dont stick out far enough) to save the fairing parts from damage.
Well, what I want is both! Less (no) damage to the frame is great, but I would also prefer to not replace expensive (to me!) fairing parts, either.
Can anyone please tell me their experience with low speed slides, or at-rest tip-overs, to tell me if these parts did or did not help you save the fairing parts from damage?
