Kruz did the leg work... I was just a sheep.

Rook it's not supposed to be. Remember it's reading volts not amps. If your bikes meter reported 19 volts you would have a whole new prob.
That's all Greek to me, Romans.
I don't know a amp from a volt. Ohm is what you say when you meditate, I think, ain't it? OHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm

I thought the Shorai might have a bit more zing than the stocker had when it was opperating as it should. Most people are reporting their Shorai seems to be a little more peppy cranking the engine over cold or hot. Maybe because Igot the little stinker in there it will just be about the same as the stocker. just lighter in weight.

You know, Roms......that ain't knocking my socks off either. A little more pull but not as snappy as I expected. It seems to run about 500 rpm faster than stock gearing at most normal street speeds

I'm in shock

Maybe when i get it up into 5-7K and higher it will scare me a bit more??

Launch at 6000RPM, shift at 10,800 in the first four gears. Report back. Please. This in my favorite gear. Love Love Love it. She's happy here. You will see.

As far as knocking socks off below 5-7 I'm not sure I noticed the change either. Not sure any one could at that rpm. Smooooooth. WOT will be a new chapter from 17/41.

There is always 16/ 48 ?

The reason they have a bit more zing is the 18AH has 270 Cold cranking amps. Stock was 200 CCA. The 14AH is 200 CCA. All of them will be reading the same volts. Your little guy has all the same #'s as stock battery and should perform the same as the 14AH. No diff.

This 18AH does spin that starter much faster, of that there is no doubt.

Ohm is what you say when you meditate, I think, ain't it?

No,,, Well yes. Ohms law applies here, but ohms is a resistance measurement. That's diff again. Big subject.

^^check out my pics on that page. Stock battery is 11 lbs, 1.2 oz. Shorai 14Ah BS12 is just over 1.5 lbs. Different scales, yeah. Both are high quality. I checked them with brass mass set and they show identical measuremnets until you get down to like 1 gram and even then they are within a couple hundreths/ounce. Accurate enough for me.

Here is my install. lol

I don't have a problem with it except for the problem of the stock cables being too long. Also, the cell equalizer/charger whatever it is going to be---the jack is covered by the tape. I'm going to stuff some foam under the battery or something and ziptie it all together. I'll show pics of what I come up with.

UPDATE: Shoot, this was too easy. Put battery in backwards so + is in, - is out. Wires are perfect and much better access to charger jack. Couple zip ties and I'm done. Funny how this stuff just sortya works, like it was supposed to be that way.

There's even room for a SNEAKY PETE> like it was meant to be.

Hey, your Mummy looks diff from My Mummy lol. This is my batt total weight including all bolts and cables.

Rook I'm not sure if duct tape is heat friendly ? May turn into a sticky gluey mess.

Dogo has a very professional looking installation, maybe you should copy how he did it Rook. As far as spinning it faster, remember, it's got the same cold cranking amperage as your old Yuasa and the battery has been sitting in a box for at least 3 or 4 months without being charged, your Yuasa would have been long dead.

Romans' might look unconventional but its taken right from the book of trade secrets. You can do anything with tape. I never thought about the potential for sticky goo melting out of duct tape but after I gave it some thought, I jus decided to put the battery in backward. No need for tape or to lift it higher. All I did was cut a piece of 1/4" plywood for the bottom of the tray and drill a couple holes in it. Then run a couple zipties around the whole thing. It works great. When I put the door back on the battery compartment you can't even see a battery there because it is all below the door.

BTW, what is the blue connector for? I always disconnect that after I get the negative wire off the frame and before I get the positive off.

hmmmmmm, Would you battery fit in tray sideways ?

00000000oo! EXCElLent IDea, Roms!

It will not fit in the tray sideways with terminals pointed up but it prolly would fit sideways if I tuned it so terminals faced out at the inside of the battery door----------or better, standing on side with terminals facing front--easy access to charger port AND positive terminal would be close to same height as stock battery AND right in the same location for convenient disconnect like stock battery + terminal is. AND----there is even more room for a bigger and even sneakier Sneaky Pete.

The only drawback would be that the battery would be strongly vertically oriented which would cause a lot more shaking around. I would try it if I needed the etra space in there for something. Mybe I will try it just for fun next time I take the battery out (which I hope will not be for at least 9 months!)

I have checked my notes and size specs from the battery packaging. The battery WOULD stand on it's side, terminals facing back of battery door. The battery is 3/16" too tall to fit in the tray with terminals facing the front. Either way would be a nice, economical use of space.....but if you needed space for something and the fit was really close, I am sure you could fab a whole new tray. Not like there is a prob with the battery being too large.

Come to think of it, I am not sure I would want to install a battery on its side. Not a lead acid. Litheum, maybe??

"BTW, what is the blue connector for? "
on the battery tray retainer bracket?

It's a ground wire. I think the clip is just to make getting the battery tray out a little easier. That particular wire runs frome where the battery is grounded to the frame, into the blue connector on the tray, and then into a taped up bundle in the battery compartment. The next set of wires to come out of that bundle are ground wires for the gas tank. I'm thinking that wire splits into several ground wires somewhere inside the bundle. Feel free to start unravling the bundle on your bike to check for sure.
So far, every black with yellow stripe wire I've tested on my bike has been a ground... but I have not even come close to testing them all.

BTW.... Killed my Shorai yesterday. Too much testing... not enough riding!
Put it on a Battery Tender overnight.... Good as gold.
Guess that's what I get for even mentioning the thought of having it "buttoned up until November"... and not putting a pigtail on the Shoria.

This worked though... yes, I was feeling that f*ckin' lazy as too not wanna just pull out the tray... Fabbing a bracket for my LCD and $TAXES$ had me at the end of my rope!

What do you say? Would a lithium battery placed on end work the same as it does placed on it's bottom?

Yo ROOK...you DO KNOW...IF you place yer battery on it's "end"...like ya want....yer center of gravity is gonna change...possibly dramatically.

MAYBE...there IS no bottom...depending on YOUR application

I always understood you could install anyway you want. Upside down, side ways or whatever. Long as does not ground out go for it.

I am I mistaken ?

I think Rook should install a lithium in his helmet and make better use of that space! lol

Lol, tough crowd.

The man has obviously never heard of a Sneaky Pete.

If you want to make the most use of the space the batt must be low and to the back. This will also help the battery rest against the back and prevent movement during all those jack rabbit starts. U know 17/45 gearing, pull your arms off. But only if you hit it lol.

Still waiting to here how your 1st to 2nd reline goes ? C' mon ,,,, tell uncle Rick. Did you almost flip over and don't want to tell ?

that ain't knocking my socks off either. A little more pull but not as snappy as I expected. It seems to run about 500 rpm faster than stock gearing at most normal street speeds

Spice up this thread a bit before baseball talk begins
