For what it's worth, i don't rate the Pirelli Angel GT at all. I have done about 8000km on them (8000 from the front, 500 on the first rear (massive puncture), 7500 on the second rear). They don't have any road feel on turn in, front just feels like it could be doing anything at all and I wouldn't know. Wet grip isn't as good as the Michelin PR3s I had on my last bike.

Those 8000km were on a single trip, all twisty roads with panniers in everything from 38C heat to -4C snow and ice.

Might just be me, but I am looking forward to ditching them and getting PR3s again. Unfortunately, after 8000km, they are barely scuffed, so I guess it'll be a while.

While we're on tyres, next time someone tells you they wouldn't run on a plugged tyre in case it lost air, tell them to man up. This stick came through the tyre at over 200kph and I rode it down to walking pace without incident (did use both sides of the road to achieve this) and then rode it on the flat tyre another 25km into the nearest town with no permanent damage other than the dead tyre.

I've had BT003Rs before, killer grip but no longevity for street use. I have been running Dunlop Roadsmart2s for a few seasons, they hold up well at 400+mile/week commutes to work on the slab. Usually get around 4k miles to a rear and 6-8k miles on a front. I bought a spare wheelset for track duty tires. Although the RS2's corner well, I opted to not punish them through several heat cycles and piled sides when I can dedicate a set for each job and ultimately save myself money on tires and downtime in the long run.

GuyBaulch, if I were you I would pickup a 2nd rear wheel just to mount a better choice in a drag tire for times when you want to hit the strip. Be tough to choose a double duty tire to share drag/street that wouldn't wear quickly and eventually spoil your street time.

Edit - I almost forgot about a friend that has ran Angel ST's and this season tried GT's on his FZ1. He said the GT's have held up well so far at a Deals Gap weekend, 2 trackdays, and lots of street riding ( have to ask him about mileage thus far )

I would guess its more riding style than anything. The older I get the longer my tires last.. lol. of course the tires are getting longer lasting these days. I had a set of Dunlop q2, they went 4000ish. do you'll think it would matter is I had a q3 on the front and a q2 on the rear?

Just mounted my $200 pair of PRIIs. The rear I removed got a plug about 1500 miles ago and never lost a bit of pressure.
I noticed the plug had mushroomed inside the tire, possibly contributing to it's integrity? Another observation about the replacements; The rear, while not past it's sell-by date, had the same manufacture date as the one it replaced, which went on over a year ago. Uncharacteristically for Michelins, it took about 1 1/4 oz. of weights applied at the centers of the rims to get them balanced. Could this be the result of the tire sitting upright in a rack for so long and the volatiles either gassing off at the top or migrating down to the bottom? To my knowledge, Michelins do not come with a "light spot" mark to orient the tire with nest to the valve stem (normally the "heavy spot" on a rim.

I had a Roadsmart 180/55 left over when I totalled BW I that I had purchased unused and unmounted from a private seller on fleabay. I sold it at break-even to a friend who needed a tire. It took several ounces of weights to get it in balance. Could this be another example of a tire acquiring a "heavy spot" from sitting on a rack for a long time?

Rode the angel gt's with the 55 profile instead of the stock 50. Definitely better! IMO. Handles in the corners better. Falls into the corner easier. Good grip in the chilly weather too.
