Hey Rome-I probably asked ya this before-but what gearing would you compare your setup right now to.Can you give me a comparo of the 16/42....as opposed to the 17(?)/45 you're running now.Fuel and performance feelings.I'd really like to give that 17/45 a go...but I want to have my top end,and mileage, and possible low end torque if you're getting that.16/42 for me worked quite well-mileage and definitely acceleration.16/43 killed my fuel. And top end was gone.

Great link scott. Blue, All I can do is repeat what others have said. Here are the main two reasons I only use the 17 Front.
A front sprocket with fewer teeth works the chain harder and robs power, as the chain has to curl more to match the smaller diameter. One thing to watch is clearance between the swingarm and chain. Smaller sprockets can result in the chain laying on the swingarm, and actually working the suspension when power is applied.
As for fuel mileage, I would think you might see a slight improvement just because of how smooth the 17/45 is. Blue, as you know I run Ivans full set up. I have no fuel cut and my timing map looks like a down hill ski slope. If anything I would have to say my mileage is not great that's for sure but I don't really check.
With a friends zx-14, the 16/43 was installed. Afterwards I ran the bike up in second gear and then kicked the bike in neutral and hit the kill switch thus allowing the bike to coast to a stop on it's own. This told me all I need to know.
The 45 tooth Vortex would not fit on my new rims that is the only reason(plus wanted Black)I have switched to the Driven name brand that is installed now. Guys, it's a great, ratio just not for touring
Blue the way you go through gears,,,,,, Lol, TRY IT you will be glad you did. Cheers.

Thanks Lab, made a big difference in how the suspension works. Turning is wow as well. Love them. Only 75 miles with them on.

Lots of fun. The light weight rim on the front was also a eye opener. Smiles inside the helmet.

Ya, that was my first worry. I have read that subject to death(made my brain hurt). Then I bought the rims. The benefits out weigh all my concerns. I have no plans on being gentle on them, of that you can be sure, and I will post any flaws.

Did you need to extend your chain?
I installed a new chain after I went to the 17/44 set up. 2 weeks later 17/45, same chain.
Top end?
I'm not sure. Hits the limiter with Eze. I was going to set the speedo healer down low and place the GPS back on the bike but never got around to it. Thats a ride that requires some warm pavement. Still cold here.
Still there?
I guess we will have to find out. I read some where in the Brock Diaries what gear Brock was using for top speed runs at 200 mph, but I can't remember.
Blue I'm curious now, what speed have you reached with 16/42 ?

Well Rome...she topped out at 182.Speedohealed.11,300 rpms-close to that.Wasn't hitting the limiter.Had er GPS for that gearing-so I know it was accurate. She just wouldn't get any higher. But I'm pretty sure she had some left-not much, but some.I asked about your chain...you got a new one...how many links for your 17/45?

Blue I just went and counted. 118. If I was going to install again I would go a bit longer. At the time my thinking was I was going to go back and forth between 44 and 45 rear. With 118 link chain this is possible. Prob is that I never went back to the 44. The 45 is my fav. Stock chain you can go 41,42,43. Mine is set to go 44,45,46. So before you cut the chain give that some thought. I hope this helps. Cheers.

brocks suggest a 40 tooth rear sprocket and ceramic bearings if wanting to hit 200mph in a mile
