Nitrous Applications for Top Speed Event
07/06/11 11:50 AM

Hey Guys,

First off thanks to you for the information on this site. Its been a big help for me as i develop my ZX.

I'm planning on going down to run the Mojave Mile in October and would love to hit 200 mph. This will be my first top speed event so i'm very excited and a bit nervous to be honest. My budget is relatively tight as i would like to do it with bolt-on's that can be sold afterwards to re-coupe some costs. This is my daily rider to so i have to keep the bike relatively mild. I know i'm asking for a lot

As of now i have an 08 14 with:

ceramic coated Brocks CT Duals
PCV
GPR Dampner (required for the rules)
Stock gearing with a 190/55 tire
A strapped front end isn't allowed so i will drop the forks 1.25 inches as per brocks reccomendations
I plan to run race gas with brocks map.

With this mild set-up i feel i would be good for 195 mph max.

I thought of ceramic bearings but thats a sunk $400 for not much gain. Is it worth it?

Are velocity stacks worth it?

I was thinking about a 30 hp shot or something. Has anyone had any expierence with which kit works best? Is it safe for the engine longer term? Would i need a custom map? What do i need to know about NOS and the 14?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Pete

high-rpm velocity stacks (Velocity Pro, like Muzzys sells) would add a few horsepower up top, like maybe 5.

But with proper gearing yours should be able to hit 200 easily without nitrous.

Nitrous and top speed events can be good, or not so good.

First of all, if you run nitrous you'll need a different fuel then you planned on running. I don't know what fuel you were going to run, probably mr9 or mr12, but to run nitrous you'll need something more like mrx01 (99 octane, still oxygenated though so you'll gain some HP on motor)

Also, nitrous over extended periods of time can lead to a new motor. You won't want to spray longer then 10 seconds, even at just a 30 shot. Sit down, do the math, and see how far you'll need to run on motor before starting the nitrous application.

You'll need some way to disable the top speed limiter also. Just fyi.

Best kit i've experienced (as far as dry kits go) was the MPS spyder set up. It uses 4 jets, evenly distributes the nitrous into each cylinder. You can use a generic tune, they can give you PC adjustment figures when you order the kit.. But i would definitely suggest either contacting a well known tuner to verify the amounts, OR get it tuned.

Ceramic bearings.. Depends on who you ask. Only time i've had them was in a set of BSTs, so i couldnt tell you.

Velocity stacks.. Same deal, never used them.

i was just telling rook about this. On a stock zx14 engine you can run up to an 80 shot without the worry of damage. Ebaymotors.com has a double bottle kit that is just for the zx14 remember you need a dry kit for the zx14 each bike is different. The kit has cool brackets that mount the bottles right above the exaust. The double bottle kit is 375.00 and the single bottle kit is around 250 or 275 it comes with everything you need to hook it up although if you want a purge kit you will have to buy that seperatly. I bought the kit and i am very happy with how it looks i will be installing it this weekend.

Im srry i read it wrong you can go up to a 40 shot not an 80, 80 needs tuning like forged engine parts such as piston and crank and rods.

i read it wrong you can go up to a 40 shot with no mods anything more you will need forged engine parts such as crank pistons and rods. here is the link for the nitrous kit http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kawasaki-ZX-14-Nitrous-Oxide-Kit-Twin-Bottles-NEW-/330585117382?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4cf86892c6

Hey Brusylum' Don't dry and spray that 40 shot on the 14 or any bike for that matter on just the iac sensor for the extra fuel.
I know they claim it works fine but trust me on this one, you will be looking for a new motor in a flash !
You will need a p/c and a good tune or at the very least a good nos map for any amount of nos ( IMO ) I have had at least 4 bikes in here that have tried to run without mapping on even a small shot. IT'S NOT PRETTY !

You can run some very large shots on a stock motor, just don't expect it to live very long.

A 40 shot will live as long as it's done right and SAFE.

The IAC will not give you enough fuel for the nitrous. You HAVE to run a nitrous map, preferably through a multifunction hub with a map switch (that's the easiest way)

1tirefire, whatever you do RESEARCH before you do anything. There are plenty of resources available. One other thing, do NOT absolutely DO NOT hit the rev limiter or top speed limiter on nitrous. You will be rebuilding your engine.

A 40 shot on a 14 tuned good will not be any trouble (BUT LIKE SN SAID ) stay off the limiters,
My comment above was meant to keep you guys from using the iac for the extra fuel any nos hit will need !
We have been spraying a 50 shot on a 06 with springs only, but its a dyno/drag test mule and has been since i bought the bike new.
Let the iac add some additional fuel as it will do anyway, but just as a little buffer to the main fuel your gonna need from a piggy.
If you want a good map for a small shot of nos lmk i have some decent ones ................
