Short of removing the tank fill tube and getting a look in there, about the only thing I would do is ride it untill its low on fuel and then refill and see if that "knocks" the sender loose and starts reading carrectly again.

Just dont runb it empty and get stranded.

Under warranty. Take it in and let them deal with it.

Yea under warranty, don't like people messing with my bikes, but I dont really have a choice, Oh well probably a sending unit or something, everything else on the panel works

I noticed on my bike (new also) that the guage seems to be inaccurate. Don't seem to come down gradually as it should. Its either full, then the next change is very low, with not much variation in between.

ZX14MAN64 That may be whats happening to mine, I thought it was low, so I filled it up, but it only took 1.6 gals, so maybe its just the way they are, I will see when I go for a long ride if it goes down, as long as it gives me some warning, thats fine, just dont want it stuck on "full" all the time ... my busa sucked gas, so I am not used to getting better mileage maybe ?

ZX14MAN64 do you have an estimate of how many miles you go before the "full" mark drops the first time ?

Thanks

I want to say I can go 50+ miles before it starts dropping, but seems to be steady from there. never got less than 32mpg for a whole tank tho, and most are 38+. so easily 150-170 miles before the guage starts blinking.

Hey Carabuser
I had that happen with my 07 and I fixed it by riding around until the tank was kinda low and when I filled up the next time around it fixed itself so dont panic yet.

As far as the gauge being accurate.....after it passes the middle bar on the guage the bars will start to drop kinda quickly....when I get down to 2 bars I usually fill back up if possible.

I also doubt these guages are really ever going to be much as far as accuracy on how it shows the depleting supply in the tank. But if its not working as it should,, whatever level of accuarcy standard they are supposed to perform at, I will certianly use the ol warranty to have the sending unit replaced.

Carabuser, No, I don't have a clue how far it has before the guage starts to show it, but will now make an attempt to see from this point forward. Given my heavy schedule, I've not ridden it enough to really have an idea, no. But you have peaked (peeked?) my interest, now.

But my bike seems to show full for too many miles, then drops real fast. Either its not working right, or they are piss poor gauges in the first place.

Part of how long it stays on Full, might have to do with how close to the top of the filler neck, it gets filled to.

Its also hard, (impossible?) to make a fuel tank read accurately all the way through. Unless its a square. Anything with curves isn't going to have the same vulume of fuel - level with the sender at all times. Well, it can, but its much harder. Especially with the shape of a MC tank.

Then there is what people expect.

Few years ago, I read an article in car and driver about a new cadillac (cts?). GM was fixing up a lot of the issues with their cars, and redesigned the fuel guages to read ACCURATELY. That year, tons of people started getting stranded w/o fuel. The normal cadillac buyer had been so used to driving X amount of miles near E, that when the new car came out; and it read E.... It was E M P T Y. so they "fixed it".

gave it the same wiggle room at the bottom of the guage range, so E still had 2-3 gallons in the tank. lol.

Filled it up, rode about 50 miles, and finally the bar went down one, I am probably the only person in the USA that was glad I used up a bar on my gas gauge ! lol Good excuse to go for a ride anyway ! man this bike has torque all over !
