I cant have this !!
09/06/14 7:53 PM

My son and I did a roll on race at 60 mph, and his 2008 CBR 1000RR left me in the dust.
He pretty much has his CBR set up like the one in this article... http://www.superstreetbike.com/features/honda-cbr1000rr-vs-bmw-s1000rr-street-king/?image=11

Will the Cblast flash & different gearing put me back in the game, or do I need a lighter bike like his Fireblade?
Show me the way...

My wrist is not the problem. With his mods and lower weight, the ZX-14 is just too much of a porker to compete.

You are correct Slomo. The ZX-14 is just too big & bulky, my son's CBR weighs about 150 pounds less.
Calling the ZX-14 a "Hyper Bike" is a joke.

Stop making excuses. Learn to ride the thing or sell it. Yes the cblast flash will get your bottom end back. 3k-7k rpm, it will be a whole different bike.

According to Sport Rider, most likely your sons CBR is faster on roll on test. This makes a lot of sense, it's a track bike. In the 1/4 mile, your 14 (I think yours is Gen1) is faster.

About the same with 14R (2012+), even then the CBR is as fast 60-80 and faster 80-100. Frankly I believe this. It's kind of werid when I do high speed runs I usually start in 2nd. The revs don't really climb any faster in 2nd than it seems in 3rd or 4th. But 4th is just an awesome gear where the speedo is rotating faster than the tach! Just something about that it's magical.

I know how to ride. The 14 cannot compete with the midrange on my son's CBR, his mods turned it into a fricking beast.
Screw the top end nonsense, midrange is where it's at for the street.

From the cblast sticky. Stock bike with exhaust. Makes 10-15hp more at the same rpm than your kids bike. Where your kids bike is making max hp, the 14 is at 8700 rpm and still pulling. Flash the ecu and report back with the list of the new mods your kid is considering in order to keep up. The secondaries are what is killing your mid. Are you rolling at 60 in first gear?

Hope the flash works for you. I just think the newer liter bikes are faster from a rollon. Hyperbike owners don't want to believe it. The CBR especially has a very strong midrange. Posts fast laps on the track and pretty good drag times also.

Screw the top end nonsense, midrange is where it's at for the street.

If you're into street racing. Bottom end is great for the street too and that, we have loads of.

You need more bikes. That's all. One to fit whatever mood you're in that day.

Silverback61,
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I don't think I have read one positive post from you regarding the Kawasaki XZ-14.
I can tell you the 14 is the best all round motorcycle I have ever owned bar none by a long way.
The bike is not perfect in all areas and nor is it designed to be. It is not for everyone so perhaps its time for you to move onto another ride that caters to performace specifications more closely aligned to your requirements and stop whining mate...
You wrote in another thread that the bike you really want is a busa.
You then change in a heartbeat and advise the only upgrade you are interested in is to a BMW K1300S.
Jump on that and see how you go against your sons CBR?
In the end I wonder whether you will be happy with whatever you end up choosing.
Just as you are entitled to your opinion, this is simply mine.

The 14 (and even 14R) aren't race bikes. They're high-powered for sure, but the power to weight ratio vs any modern superbike is still in favor of the smaller machine.

The 14 makes a fantastic, stable, smooth street machine. With mods it makes an assload of power and puts that power down well, but you're never going to compete with a dialed 1000 in any performance based assessment outside of the 1/4 mile.

If we are just talking bike weight per hp, the difference isn't as much as you would think, especially when comparing to an R.
Liter bikes making 185hp have a power to weight in the 2.3-2.4 lbs per hp range.
Priscilla is in the 2.5-2.6 pound per hp range. But her torque to weight ratio is WAYYYY higher than any liter bike. They are lucky to make 75ft.lbs. I think Priscilla makes that at idle. These liter bikes we are talking about aren't 'racebikes' either. Just liter bikes with all the same lights and evap crap we deal with eliminating. :)) The R has a 12-3:1 compression ratio. Flashed revvs to 11500 at least, and will absolutely smash a liter bike anywhere but a circuit track. On the street, I eat them in batches. Just my personal opinion but I have owned both. A flawless Ducati 1098 that was a freak of nature, and Priscilla would suck her in and spit her out at about 145. That's the thing I have found about the liter bikes, they fall on their face past about 150. Wanna smoke one? Stay in it hard through fourth and grab all of fifth. Be lucky to find it in your mirrors. This has been spoken to time and again by fellas that own them. SicNinja has a BMW HP4 and a ZX-14R with a cblast flash. Ask him which is faster. He has told me many times! :)))) that Beemer of his is making about 190hp and yet it doesn't have that big girl torque you need. Well... That big girl torque I NEED. Rofl.
Just my 2c.

Wanna even the contest? Stop rollin on contests. Too many variables. Start from a stop and go to top of fifth. :) just stay all balls in it and see whom ends up in front and whom doesn't. If your gonna smash WOT, do so. Don't half smash it and try watch the other guy and see what's happening. You'll see yourself lose. Decide to win (you are on a big bike right?), and mash that thing to the stop and hold it there. Focus on your shift points, focus on fast. Again, just my 2c.
I am not advocating street racing and no bunnies were harmed during this post.

I agree. In fact I think at some point a couple weeks ago this guy declared he was giving up on the 14 and buying some other bike. I'm on the verge of declaring troll and calling it a day. I'm not 100% certain, I don't think there's really been any evidence this guy really even has a 14.

Hello performance fans, I picked up a beautiful Atomic Silver 2008 ZX-14 from Bobz Bikz in Kingman Kansas yesterday.
I have had quite a few bikes over the years CBR 954, K1200 RS, Aprilia RSV1000, etc..., but this
ZX-14 is the most awesome bike of the bunch!! The 150 mile ride home was highly exhilarating.
I'm looking forward to learning more about this fine machine from the forum

:WELL AT LEAST HE STARTED OFF WITH INTEREST ....I THINK

Silver do you know anyone else in your area who is familiar with 14's? If so have them take yours for a test run, maybe your bike is down on power. Or maybe get it strapped to a dyno. Also are you certain what your gearing currently is?

It runs great, I just feel feel the weight is too much.
My gearing is stock, my son's CBR's isn't. You can read what he did in the first post.

Silver how's your son's ZX10 doing against the CBR. I spent one summer switching back and forth with the 2008 CBR. Outside of the oil issue it was a sweet ride.

Get your flies out, 16/43 gearing or 17/45 run that race again. Match his mods. And yes get it flashed. Only way to fix that bottom end hole. Post your results. Dad should not be pounded by his sons. Go for them. Game On.

I'm geared taller. -2 in the rear and I had no issue catching up and passing a brand new r1 that had a jump on me. All with a roll on from 40MPH in 3rd gear, passed him just as I was at the top of 3rd and about to grab 4th. Took a second with him having a big jump on me. Ain't no bike gonna keep up once this thing hits 90-100mph. That's when the magic suddenly throws you back in the seat like you just hit the nitrous button.

The ZX-10 is bone stock and cant stay with either one of us. The CBR is ruling right now.
It would be more reasonable to mod my 14, but I still prefer a lighter more nimble bike.
