Starting riddle
07/01/17 10:34 PM

I have a dilemma cant solve and here are the pieces to the puzzle.

1. Bike got rained on while I was cleaning garage.
2. Bike would not start without starting fluid. Would run rough, but smoothed out upon acceleration. After 10 min. warmup, bike runs good.
3. When cruising, if I kill engine, bike wont start using starter button, only clutch.
4. Error code 23 and 24.

Battery is fully charged and cranking speed is good. New spark plugs are firing. Fuel pump actuating as it should. Inspected the cable to cam sensor (code 23). Tomorrow will open case to inspect cam sensor. Maybe water got into connections on the wiring harness? IDK.
Is there a way to check fuel injectors to see if working properly? Thanks in advance.

I once had trouble after washing the bike. The speedo went nutzo but I did not get an error code. I believe it was wet speed sensor connection with my Speedo Healer (which does not have the greatest connectors). I did not try to start it immediately after I shut it down. After cooling off a few hours after the ride, it was back to normal. I have ridden in some heavy rain since that time without a problem but I don't spray the bike anymore when I wash it.

Apparently, 24 is the speed sensor. I would take the connectors apart and let them dry out.

...and as you suspected, the camshaft position sensor is also probably wet. Must have been a hell of a rain!

Hey Rook, code 23 is still present after cleaning sensor. A thread on psychobike mentioned this problem and solution was new CPU (06 or 07). Replacing crankshaft sensor did not solve guys problem. With this error, the injectors may not work, while cranking.
If you have any other ideas please let me know.

maybe remove the lead connector from the engine and dry it? seems unlikely it would get wet under there but might as well try if you haven't yet.

I would also check on whether this can now be reset with a flash.

I have disconnected plugs from wire harness and cleaned. Decided to reinstall old plugs (iridium) and engine came to life. For some reason my bike didn't like the CR10E plugs which are used for turbo and nitrous. They are gapped to 20 thousandth as per instructions. At least bike haad its engine cleaned.

Rook have you used special plugs with nitrous?

I have not used nitrous yet! I need to make some bottle holders and get my timing mapped. It's on the list.

The plugs I have are NGK CR9EKPA with the double electrode. They work same as the stock plugs far as I can tell. Hagrid gave me some iridiums which I will try next time I change.

You see, I have that lower section of square tubing removed from the tail frame. Normal brackets won't work. I have to make them. I've drawn them out freehand after taking measurements but that's as far as I got. Have a chunk of aluminum sitting here and can't wait to start that project.
