Just drained my coolant at 30 thousand KM,I noticed some sediment in the overflow tank ,anyone run rad flush thru their bike,I'm leaning towards just running new 50/50 mixture of coolant & distilled water then changing again in a 1000 KM

I'm not so sure that flushing our radiators with a commercial product is a good idea.Water flush,then refill with the stocker coolant would be my choice.In fact....was my choice(almost)I think I went ahead and used an aluminum safe coolant,50/50 mix.May have been "Peak" or another known trusted brand.Not some el cheapo though.Long as it's rated "safe" for aluminum parts and such.50/50 and Distilled...yep...you got it.

I noticed the white floaty crap in my overflow reservoir after the second season started. Prolly not a horrible sign, IMO but why not freshen it up? I'll be doing it every year. ~$11 for a bottle of Kawi coolant, if I remeber correctly.

Rad Flush Coolant Change

Buck20 had a great comment on this thread. 'Just use a 50/50 solution of coolant and distilled water to flush.' That will maintain the correct strength where if water alone is used, the flush that doe s not come out will weaken the coolant you put in to stay.

I'd use distilled water for at least 1 flush and then 50/50 for a final flush. Fill with 50/50 for the fresh coolant change you will keep in the system.

I would use Kawi coolant. And def use distilled water to mix a/o flush.

The bike will stink forever almost, but if you want clean-clean-clean???

Someone experiment; Use 50/50 vinegar/distilled water, start, run bike to full heat cycle, park; flush. Install drain plug. Fill with 100% distilled water. Run a full heat cycle; drain. I'd run one or two more or run a bunch of house water thru it. Final cleaning would be with two flushes of distilled water w/heat cycle.

I mean, once you capture [all] of the old coolant, you can flush the bike with the garden hose filling the radiator and the drain plug removed for a continuous flush down the driveway. No harm no fouling the water table.

blue, the sediment was a light brown,I'm told it's the silica in the anti-freeze,I removed the over flow tank,and cleaned it, not a base as acid didn't effect it,dish detergent and 1/2 a dozen 1/4-20 nuts shaken around cleaned the overflow tank

IDK...but it sure won't hurt to keep the Rad fluid clean.Good one.I have to say...and I don't really know WHY...but I've had extremely good fortune with my bike.She's NEVER...and I mean NEVER had any maintanence issues since new.Everthing has been exactly as it should be...no rad problems...no oil issues.No part failures.Pretty amazing to me anyway.43,000 miles...mostly 100 mph miles...and NO problems.
