Good luck, Reeves. Get a good deal. I'm sure owners of used bikes are just as hungry as the stealers.

his craigslist ad said $6k for a stock bike with 5k miles, yeah right. i offered $5k cash so we'll se what happens. the only scratch i see on the bike is on the front fender which is a lot better than most of the bikes i've been looking at.

Man, this reminds me of trade-in fever, y'know, the kind that sweeps through your neighborhood every few years. Somebody will bring home a new Chevy Tahoe or whatever then all of a sudden, all the neighbors are trading in on a new set of wheels. Hey, it's good for the economy. I guess we can call this "Literbike Fever", now you guys got me looking at a ZX-10, I stopped by Kawasaki City to take a look and he's got plenty of '08s left in the Black, Plasma Candy Blue and the Green. He won't budge on price though, $10,013 drive out take it or leave it. You guys got the deals up north.

^^Not usually a lot of employers wanting to hire a teacher for two and a half months during the summer. Not even if they are paying peanuts. I'm working now but not too much. Will be combing the streets to grab another job - just about anything. That will help put my mind at ease about making a big purchase but I know in reality, the extra income isn't going to be too significant. Can't wait for school to start.

Hate to say it, guys - I know there's a lot of loyal kawi guys here but I looked at a pic of the 08 gixxer 1K and it is a lot better looking bike. From the stats in Kruz's post a page back, it looks like the 08 gix is very close in performance to the 08 zx-10. Have to check a price or two on one of those.
Anyone know about the head shake situation with the 08 gixxer as compared to the zx-10? Same I guess. Powerband strength/weakness of the 08 gixxer??

Depends on who you listen too but some place the '08 ZX-10 ahead of the '08 GSXR 1000 and some give the nod to the Gixxer. The '08 Gixxer has no bad traits that I'm aware of, a little porky maybe but it hides it's weight well. It was similar to the ZX-10 in that it has a top end oriented power delivery with relatively mild midrange. No headshake issues that I've ever heard of on the Gixxer and the suspension is better. Why not take a look at the CBR 1000 while you're at it? The '08/'09 is arguably one of the finest sportbikes ever and has a fantastic midrange oriented power band that is very entertaining on the street or track. The '07s are not shabby either and are very user friendly (i.e. no bad traits that will lead to your early demise) and you can find even better deals on those if you can still find one left on the dealers floor. I did a search and found one '07 in your area in Cedarburg, same place as the ZX-10 but it is a used unit.

I know the Honda would be way faster on the street than any of them. The only reason I am favoring the ZX-10 or the GSXR is that I know I will suffer from hp/tq envy. I will want to own yet another bike in a couple years and that seems to be insane even to me. Whatever I get, I plan to keep for many years so it might as well be the craziest bike on the market currently.

The Euro CBRs are putting out the most HP and torque of any of the current crop Rook. The only difference is the ECU, the American version is restricted between 11K and 13K to meet emissions requirements but that's easily fixed with an ignition module.
You really need to take a step back and figure out what it is you really want. Do you want the best bike or the biggest numbers? The biggest numbers on a dyno don't always equate to the fastest bike on the track or drag strip...think area under the curve.

I visited dealer #3 today. Seems like they have plenty of 08 ZX-10s. The OTD price was about $100 more than dealer #2 who came in at $9,052 OTD. Dealer #3 told me the price will go up Wednesday and based on another detail he let slip, I believe they have the inside scoop on the kawi rebate situation for July.
Hate to cause a row and then back out but I think the Suzuki would make me a lot happier because of the looks. For the length of time I'd own it, I think it'd be worth another 1 or 2 thousand and no real big rush to buy. Another $500 off the kawi and I really think I'd have to go for it.
Thanks everyone so much for the help. Now back to the 14...where to buy a Tsukigi Cannon......lets see...

Wellllllll - If I'm going to have it, that's what i gotta have then. Still no real big rush to buy a Honda either which is another plus. Could wait 'til next year on an 09 CBR, no prob and have all that time to mull through the facts and figures. Your right. I do need to put a lot of thought into this. It's a big purchase rebate or not. Thank you very much, J for all your help here.

Rook check out Kens Sports they are in Kaukauna WI which should be about a 1 1/2 drive. He has had three 08 zx10's that have been on and off Ebay for several months. It appears he still has blue, black and green. He is asking 8249 plus tax so your OTD would be under 9k. I would offer him 8k I bet he would take it in a hot second because the last time I checked Kaw was also offering a dealer incentives on 08 zx10s. So not only will he make cash on an obvious repo bike from failed dealership he will probably make some incentive money from Kaw. Kens Sports

Sounds like he might be looking for about the same as the best deals I found down here. The iron has gotten a little cold now. I'm willing to wait and see if they come down more if it takes 'til late fall. I've had my fav bike for a year and I still love it. I've known I'd have to have a busa for some time. They'll come down too.

I know how you feel because these liter bikes are teasing me.
If I'm going to buy another bike, I want to be sure it's the one that is going to satisfy me best. Another thing, I'm not officially divorced until July 17th (I hope - 2nd hearing). I'm concerned that it might be discovered that I bought a new motorcycle and this could cause a negative reflection on me. The Judge doesn't look like he rides.

I'm trying to decide whether to drop $1400 on a Sato Race Titanium Full System for the CBR or do the responsible thing and put on a $400 Yoshimura slipon and be done with it. I can't justify dropping 1400 bucks on an exhaust sytem but when did any of this ever make sense? You gotta do what moves ya Rook, you gotta stir the soul a little sometimes.

LOL Rook your not going to be happy until you have another bike. Trying to talk yourself out of it or putting it off while hoping the mood will pass is pointless. Once you have the new bike bug the only cure is to purchase a new bike.

If it will fit the 09 you want to upgrade to, I'd get the Sato. If not, I'd keep it stock. That must be a light system they have on there.
If a bike is going to be around a long time it doesn't pay to get anything but the most and the best. I'm sort of all or nothing that way.

Well Kruz, I'll tell ya, my Akra S/O looked and sounded great, but a full system REALLY woke up the beast!
If you buy the Sato, you'll never think about the $$$ again... buy a S/O and you'll still want the Sato.

I'm leaning towards Sato. The Yoshimura full system is almost half the money but I'm hearing it doesn't perform like the Sato. Superbike Supply rates it #1 for the '06/'07 CBR 1000.
