Bike Cover
10/18/13 9:57 PM

My 14 will probably be parked outside so I need a cover.

I'd like it to fit well......the one I use for other bikes is too small.

I'd like it to be a decent price, bit not super cheapo that isn't worth using.

What do ya know?

I went ahead and spent the extra money for a geeza gear cover. if you go to pashnit moto, they have a clearance on blems, supposedly slight discoloration - but I couldn't tell. rolls up pretty small. almost waterproof. and you can trailer a bike with it on. It doesn't cover the lower part of the bike, but its small enough I can take it with me in my tank bag.

I want to say I got the elite, size medium. $150. http://www.pashnit.com/product/geza.html#elite

If it looks like rain, I then cover it with an old dowco full cover I had from my R1. with both covers on, nothing gets wet.

If you will be parking outside in snowy weather, maybe a full cover is what you need.. Prolly not much snow in S cal. Get a Geeza. That's the ONLY practical cover for a sportbike. Goes on fast and rolls up smaller than a football. I have the bottom level Geeza and it works great for sun protection. Get one of the the higher rated for rain. Call Tom at Geeza and I guarantee he get all the facts sorted out for your bike and needs.

They are not cheap but this is really the only cover you will actually use every day instaed of stuffing in a closet.

The Nelson-Rigg MC-904-04-XL fits the 14R quite nicely- very snug (it's elasticized), and it leaves about three inches of tire exposed. $35 off Amazon. I do keep the bike in a carport so I can't speak to weather protection, but they claim it's water-resistant.

On my 2013 14R:

As I mentioned, mine is in a carport- after a year, it's as good as the day I bought it except for a couple grease stains. I guess we know now how it stands up to the weather.;)

Ultraviolet light exposure kills most polymers.

I think Geza has sun-proof covers. They're not cheap but you won't have to buy more than one.

I've used Geezas Elite on both bikes. Great product. Actually quite practical to carry and put on/off bike. Much easier to use and rolls up way smaller than convetional covers.

I recomend you get it WITH mirror holes even if you have no mirrors. Just looks neater on the bike with the tog drawn up around the mirror holes. Comes with special Geeza mirror socks if you have mirrors.

The bag seems a bit small to fit the cover in at first but if you roll the cover up so that it is too wide (about 16") it stuffs through the openning in the bag very easy. Quick, light, compact and easy. Truly the only cover guaranteed to actually be used every day.

NO, they do not cover the bottom of the bike nor do they cover the front fender. These are areas Geeza has determined through testing that do not get affected by sunlight enough to warrant the bulk of extra material. You could custom order one of these if you need complete coverage. The Geeza guy (Tom if I recall his name) is TOTALLY into this product and he will talk to you at great length about it. He'll tell you what fabric you really need for your purposes. If you are not towing over 60 mph, you probably can use a less expensive fabric. I did and mine work great for a cover you pull on the bike to protect from sun and bird poop. They are available in water-proof fabric too but even the cheaper ones will keep most water out (but not all). The MC market is just a small portion of Geeza's focus. Geeza covers are used to cover everything from bikes to military jets.

I whole heartedly recommend this cover. They have a blem sale every year where you can pick one up at a good discount. It may still be going on. Order from Pashnit.com. Both my covers are blems. It is simply a cosmetic blemish in the fabric but I can see no blemish at all on either one.

Had a shipping problem on the 14's Geeza cover. The package never arrived. Geeza's records showed the package was received but took me on my word that it was not received. They made a whole new one for me and shipped it promptly.

check out The Geeza thread in Products and Providers section.

I recommend a Dowco. The have a great warranty. I used one on my Hayabusa for over five years. The zipper stuck and I sent it back to them and they happily replaced it free of charge.

My 14 will probably be parked outside so I need a cover.

A plain cover is best if you plan to leave your bike outside. Is best not to advertise your bike (Ninja or ZX-14 logo on the cover) to avoid telling would be thieves what kind of bike you have.

^^^Good point. The one drawback to the Geeza is that it might actually draw more attention than no cover. If you're parking in high crime areas, you want to cover the bike up and make it look as uninteresting as possible. Careful about scuffing up the windscreen and tip of the tail. My conventional cover has anti-scratch inserts sewn into those areas but it still scuffed there. Easy enough to polish out with 3M rubbing compound but kind a PITA if you like to keep the bike looking perfect.
