Rear Shock Spring Replacement
06/24/09 9:31 PM

So, I picked up an aftermarket rear shock spring from the old forum and I'm just now getting around to thinking about installing it. I can't find the instruction sheet, though I do have a service manual, so I have the shock removal procedure. My question is whether or not I'm going to absolutely need a spring compressor. I vaguely recall reading that it was handy, but not absolutely essential. But I could have dreamed it.

Anyone replace their rear shock without a spring compressor?

You will need a spring compressor to change it out. But, going to a heavier spring will require other changes as I've found out.

Im bringing this back from the dead because I ordered a set of front and rear springs from racetech. I was thinking of tackling the rear in my garage. What other changes will be made when going to a heavier spring in the rear?

BigBlack, you'll need to re set your rebound and compression settings on your shock to compensate for the stiffer spring. Usually you'll need to increase your rebound damping and may need to decrease your compression.
