true story for a grand though. ive hit it with a back pack and it wasnt too horrible. 130 isnt too bad, but the 80mph thing is deffinately a no go. i average 90 on the highway on long distance trips. i appreciate the input!

I'd imagine no luggage is gonna have a rating any higher.

I've had my v35s and E52 top case to 140, smooth sailing, no noise, no vibration. Using SW-Motech mounting racks.
Not that I like it up there with all that stuff, but when I pass a string of 8 or 9 slow arse cars on a 1 mile passing section thats dead straight, she's out in the incoming lane and up to 6th before I pass 3 of them and gaining speed like gangbusters.
End up needing to flare out and sit up to scrub some speed. What a rush!

Not sure what they are rated for... but the rain covers for those Nelson Rigg soft saddle bags, on my bike, fly off in the 160's... bags hold tight well into the 170's... or so I hear.
and thanks for posting the pic, Danno... SWEET old Commando!

Thanks. I had a shit-ton of fun riding it back in the day, although I was 55 lbs. lighter then. I still think it's the best-sounding motor ever made and the rubber-mounted chassis was way ahead of it's time. Back then, solidly-mounted 750 vertical twins had to be de-tuned to keep from rattling your fillings out and shaking parts loose like a dog shedding hair. The Commando was smooth and only shook at idle. I'm gonna try to have it in running shape this summer so I can putt around on it and show it off.

@ DOGO- no kiddin what set up of nelson?
@ Privateer- that sounds right up my alley. i dont hold 150ish(ive noticed the higher the speed the less i want to look at the speedometer), i hit the area and roll off it. nothing worse than being stuck behind a line of vehicles going below the speed limit. how much weight do you normally have in the GIVI V35s?
Im sure there arent many bags meant for the abuse of high speeds if any at all. so i gotta go with the most durable for the buck. ill be the first to admit i get carried away on the long straight aways with not a soul or thing around. that can be just as fun as cutting corners.

I put more in my Givi luggage than the manual says I can put in them. No problems.
Back when I shipped my ZX11 to London, and hooked up with some blokes there to go across to France, up to Assen, Holland for the GP race (pre-MotoGP, still 2-strokes), then down to south coast of France, with side trips to Italy, Germany, and Spain.... I had RKA "soft" luggage.
A pair of the large RKA saddlebags, a large RKA tank bag, and a large RKA seat bag. I took the rain covers but never put them on. I went well over 150mph on Autoroute 10 going north from France to get to the Nederlands with that RKA luggage, no problem. RKA makes the best nylon luggage in the business. Treat with with the spray they sell (industrial shit, have to do it outside and let it dry for 24 hours) and its waterproof.
When I went back down south to get back into France, I rode Autoroute 10 south, and got caught in a raging thunderstorm for about 2 hours before I rode out of it. What that showed me was a) my Aerostich Roadcrafter owns, and b) the RKA luggage is fantastic it not only can go 150+ but it keeps the stuff inside dry in a torrential rain (not to mention the wind moving me 2 lanes sideways at a time) also.
To this day, I use a RKA tankbag and big seatbag, when I absolutely have to haul more stuff. The tankbag never scratches the tank, nor does it move around.

Who sells RKA stuff over here? My old Eclipse looks like a steamer trunk on the 14 and the RT Recon 11 looks like pimple up there. I NEEDS me a good tankbag.

ROFL Danno. I met Richard and Kathy (RKA) back in the late 80's at Sears Point track north of San Francisco. We were racing AMA events. Long story made short, I tried their luggage when I got my ZX11 and used it for a month in Holland, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain on my trip. I camped the whole way except for a hotel in Assan, Holland for the Assan TT (pre-MotoGP GP).
That luggage performed perfectly.
Today I have one of their tank bags and a seat bag.
