RE: Check This

I've always thought things were pretty cool. When I was a kid, I forget the show, but it was something like Mr. Wizard that they demonstrated what they called, at the time "space time distortion". They just used one of the rotating spiral wheels and instructed the viewer to look at for 20-30 seconds.
I'm not sure why they potrayed it as space time distortion but maybe just the scientific understanding at the time.
I believe the current understanding is basically this over stimulates nerves in your eyes and causes the nerves to become used to the motion. Thee nerves get tired and just accept that things are in motion. This is why it takes 20-30 seconds of looking at the image, and why it last a few seconds when you look away as your nerves are figuring out that there isn't motion.
REading the letters doesn't have anything to do with it. THat's simply to help you focus on the center of the screen. However, unlike they tell you, focusing on the center is is not necessary either. Try this. Play that video but look away from the screen, but keep the the imagery in sight. The same effect will occur, but it will be localized to where the imagery was in yuur site line. So you try to look at the distortion, but that causes it to move because you tried to look at it! The key is to focus on one thing and not to shift your focus, it's not nearly as important as where you're looking.
Counter rotating spirals imo are probably the most effective. There used to be websites that were java based and let you change some of the settings to see what worked best for you.
If you really want to "trip out", open these rotating spirals in a different window and place parts of them visible on the screen while you're working on your computer. All the sudden shit will start twisting and moiving around as your focused on whatever it is you're working on, but the part of your vision has become used to the motion stimulation.
