Hello all from Baltimore
02/25/14 4:45 AM

Just stopping in to say hello. I just got my 2013 14r yesterday. I have been riding only since 2005, so I don't have an extensive history of bikes. I started out small on a 2004 Ninja ex250. After riding that for a season I bought a used Yamaha FZR600. I moved from that bike quickly to a 2002 Yamaha R1. I got rid of the R1 because at the time all I was doing was city riding and it was just too much. I have owned an 07 GSXR 750 for the last 7 years and was ready for a new bike. I was always 100% thinking I was going to buy a 13 leftover Busa. The bike show was here two weeks ago and when I sat on the Busa it just felt really heavy and wide. It's hard to explain, but just sitting on the bike it feels bigger and heavier than the 14R. I have no idea what it feels like when it's moving, but I couldn't get comfortable on it. The 14R was very comfortable to sit on and I decided then to start looking for leftover 13's. My local dealer had a red one and quoted me $14,312 out the door. I decided to shop around and found a used red non abs for $10690 in Virginia. The out the door price was quoted as $12057. The bike only had 1949 mile on it. I secured financing through my credit union and was going to get it this weekend. The check didn't come in the mail until late Saturday so I couldn't pick the bike up. I decided to look around a little more because I really wanted the abs and red wasn't necessarily my first color pick. I found a dealer in West Virginia, that had a price on a green abs model of $11499. I called to see what the out the door price was and he said that was it. I couldn't believe it. I made the two hour drive to West Va. with the wife and we got the bike. I drove the bike all the way back to Baltimore in about 38 degree weather. Probably the dumbest thing I've ever done, lol. But it was so worth it. Bike is super comfortable, I didn't feel cramped up or jammed into to it at all. The bike is also super easy to ride and the power is a bit of a shocker coming from the 750. Just a twist of the throttle to make a pass and I went from 65mph to 90mph effortlessly. Had to slow down and take it easy because of the new tires. Good thing is I did 120 miles on them so they are past the break in period. Sorry for the long post, I was just so excited about the new bike.

@Star, sweet looking bike. That's actually the color I wanted, but they didn't have an abs model in that color. I started out at Pete's on Bel Air road. They're the ones who quoted me $14312 out the door on the red one. I really am starting to like the green and really the most important thing I wanted was the abs, so I'm happy. The bike does seem to be pretty fast. My 750 didn't start pulling really hard until it hit about 9k. This bike seems to have tons of power. A friend of mine had an older one and one day he pulled away from me, just playing around, and I couldn't catch him on the 750. And this newer one has even more power. So I'm going to have to take it easy if I don't want to lose my license, lol.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.

the gen 2 busa handles exceptionally well for a big bike IMHO but I don't how it compares to the 14r. .If I were buying a new bike, I'd definitely get the 14r over the busa. GOOD CHOICE!

I feel the 14R has a certain...'compactness' to it.Hard to describe really.A completeness...tightness....solid feel. The power delivery just adds to the feeling of oneness with the bike.Great machine for sure...ride safe and get used to her....you're gonna really like the ABS...good to know she won't lock with full braking applications.I've tried...no go...she just won't skid;)

It's hard to explain, but the weight just didn't seem as balanced on the Busa as it did on the 14r. I'm coming from the 750 and that bike was about 400lbs. It was extremely agile and good for the back roads. I've always kind of considered myself a Suzuki guy and had my heart sat on the Busa. But the way it felt when I sat on it, I couldn't see myself being comfortable with it leaned over. Might have just been psychological, and I know the 14 weighs just as much, but the 14 somehow manages to feel smaller than than the Busa when I sit on it. And again, I've never ridden any year Busa so I can't say how they actually handle. Sorry about the quality of the pics, my wife took them with her camera phone. Time for me to get a new camera anyway and now that I have the new bike, I'm thinking about getting a go pro as well.

the 14r just flat out overpowers the busa. It dominates the hyperbike class. that's all that need be said because power is the whole reason that hyperbikes exist. If you're looking for a track bike, probably what you had would serve best but for an all around bike for sport riding, top speed, drag racing, touring and ordinary street use and maybe even an occassional road race course track day, you can't beat the busa or the 14. Nothing does it all equally well but these bikes come about as close as can be.

Yes, some people report that the busa feels less agile in cornering and most people feel that the busa is just out of their comfort limit in terms of riding position and engine vibes. It's a matter of personal choice. haha I'm sure either a busa or a 14 feels heavier and less agile than your old gixxer 750. they all excel in some aspect of performance and have limitations in others. .

Yeah don't even mention it,lol. I'm already shopping for a double bubble, trying to figure out which exhaust to get, and trying to justify the money for the yosh fender eliminator. I'm going to take my time though and do it slow so I don't have to spend the money at once. I think I'm going to get the M4 exhaust first. It's not expensive and ice always like the way they look. The sound is ok and it's got to be louder than the stock exhaust.

Welcome! And 14's are a blast on the track if you don't mind waiting for the straights to reel smaller bikes back in :D
And after some proper suspension setup, they're quite capable for what they are
