Center Stand ?
10/01/12 7:44 PM

I was thinking of getting one for my 2012.

After my Z100o hit the deck from me not having the stand all the way forward, I am now always a bit weary of walking away from the big heavy ZX14R and leave it leaning on a sidestand.

I was wondering what you all thought of your centerstand, and the added stability it offers over the sidestand.

1st thing I put on my bike. Never had a bike without one. My bike is on the center stand even in the garage. I've seen too many bikes fall over off the side stand. The guy that bought my ZX11 had the wind blow it over 2 weeks after he bought it. Said he never uses the center stand.

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

I am so glad I installed mine, it is so much easier to wash, and do basic maintainence on.
Only took Kawasaki Australia 7 months to get 1 for me!

What they said. The fact that it's only an option is what amazes me. I can't imagine but a few folks removing one just to have that silly underbelly winglet.

When I've lived in quake-prone regions as well as tornado / storm regions, I ALWAYS leave the bike on the kickstand (sidestand).

Put it in gear, roll it as far forward as it will let you, and put the kickstand down and lock the handlebars to the left.

After many earthquakes, never had one come off the sidestand, but knew many who had them bounce of the centerstands.

+1

I was amazed when I got my ZX14 and it didn't have a centerstand. I mean, all my bikes before had them. So one of the first things I did was put a centerstand on it.

Threw the belly wing thing in a corner of the garage. Its probably still there. Its worthless anyway.

I bought the center stand for a C14 on Ebay. Of course as you know the mounting is diff.
Have any of you modified the C14 stand to fit the ZX14?
If yes – how?

Thanks

I put a C14 center stand on my 06 ZX14. You have to drill and thread a hole on the left side of the frame and mount the pin for the spring from a C14. Look at a C14 to get an idea of where to locate it. Then I bought a centerstand stop from Brock's that stops the stand from coming up and hitting the chain. I had to weld on about 3/8" piece of steel onto the Brock's stop to keep the stand low enough. The rest of the install is bolt on. It was a good deal for me since I bought the C14 stand for $19.00 off ebay. No problems with ground clearance at all and it allowed me to easily change my rear shock which the dealer wanted $130 to do.

Sounds like some of you have both on the bike?

ANd does the center stand require you to remove the rearmost, lower part of the fairing (behind the pipe)?

Thanks for all the input, and thanks for the install how to, Eric.

But having to remove the lower part of the fairing is gonna be a drawback, at least for me.

Why? You can hardly see the winglet fairing, and it doesn't do anything for you.

Hi,
Just fitted the Kawasaki centre stand on my 2012 ZZR1400,
not been out on it yet as the weather is crap, and salt
everwhere. But the Spring does not seam very strong ! !
it went on really easy !! Hope it does not bang up and
down when you ride over a rough surface.
Anyone got any exsperiance of a loose centre stand ? ?

Cheers TTPAUL

The spring on mine was really difficult to install it was that strong, sounds like something is wrong.

I haven't had a centre stand on a bike since the ZX10 and have absolutely no need for or even miss one any more. I have a paddock stand in the garage for maintanance and have a chain oiler fitted so I don't need to piss ball about lubing the chain every five minutes when I'm on holiday or touring. So I'll take the underbelly fairing please! JMO

I needed a new rear tire during my last trip to Arkansas. Called around and found a tire. Rode to the dealer and put it up on the C-stand, pulled the back wheel and rolled it inside. In and out in an hour and didn't have to pay the dealer to r&r the back wheel.

How to you pull the rear wheel with one of those things stuck under your axle?

Never mind, I see you can jam it under a swingarm spool. Don't have them because I don't need a track stand.

I'd trust it for chain lubing, but that's about it.

I don't think I 'd want to torque down on anything with just that for support and I certainly would not want to remove the rear wheel allowing the bike to fall onto the swingarm. Chain lubing on a trip was really the only thing I was concerned with to get a centerstand.

Yeah, you right. Beside I can't think of a circumstance where I would have access to a new tire but not a rear stand and I only carry tools for minor stuff.

I rode VFR's for years and thought I couldn't live without center stands.
I then purchased my 14 and decided to keep the belly pan because I reckon it looks good and pass on the center stand.
Couldn't be happier.
I have a top quality Anderson race stand which I use to do all my work on the bike with and also the bike lives on that when at home in the garage.
When I'm away touring I find I have very little use for a center stand.
Less weight and less chance of an incident putting a heavy bike up on possible uneven or loose ground.
But each unto their own I guess...

I had rear stands and front pin stands even though I had a centerstand. I used them in my shop/garage.

But on trips, I can't take the rear stands and front stands with me, and believe it or not, if you go on long trips enough, sooner or later you will need to change a tire. Then that center stand is worth its weight in gold.

That little pocket stand, I wouldn't trust my bike on that for 10 seconds.
