Brand New to the site

How goes it everyone? I just registerd to the forum today. I already like it a lot, there is a ton of information on here. Just sold my 2000 ZX-9 and picked up a 2006 ZX-14. Outstanding bike, handles awesome for its size, and I thought my 9 was HOLY SH!T fast. I have been riding for over 25 years and have been on many bikes, even the Busa (am I allowed to say that here LOL) and have never experienced the freight train pull like this bike has. Full Muzzy exhaust, +2 on the rear sprocket (Vortex), and had a good friend of mine who does club days help me with the suspension. We set the sag, adjusted preload and dampening, what a difference. I love this bike!!!

Anyway, I figured I would try to get some info and there seems to be some pretty knowledgable people on here. I wanted to learn more about the power commanders, the secondary butterflies, and the difference between BMC and K+N filters. I also wanted to find out the best way to sell an exhaust system for it. Like I said, it currently has a full Muzzy M14 titanium/carbon fiber exhaust on it. I really like the way it sounds, but I like the way the M10 looks. I do plan on dragging the bike occasionally. I have found someone that has that set-up for sale and I am very interested in buying it. I want to unload the pipe so it isn't sitting around collecting dust. I am asking $850 for it or would trade for a nice set of chrome wheels and tires.

I hope someone would be willing to offer some info to help me out. I appreciate it in advance and look forward to chatting. Thanks

Ash

If your new ride still has the secondary butterflies in, you WILL want to remove them. Instructions should be in the HOW-TO section.

Feel free to post a message about your exhaust system for sale in the For Sale section.

And yes, you are allowed to say "Busa" here... -bg

Thanks for the response BGordon, I appreciate it. I have posted my exhasut in the classifieds. Hopefully someone will lock onto it.

I have read some info about the butterflies, but there seems to be some different opinions on this. Some are saying that you get the same results from simply installing a PC and others are saying that you get much better throttle response, PC or not. Then I think I also read something off the Brocks Performance site about the shift counter being affected if a PC is installed. Is this correct or did I misunderstand?

I have to post some pics here soon. I would like to do like the other guys have with showing the progress of their bikes. It will take a long time though, I am paying two rents. I'm divorced LOL.

I have read some info about the butterflies, but there seems to be some different opinions on this.
The differences are in the first few years of the bike. Call yours and one more year, a Gen1. Then the updated opinion appears in the 3rd bike or the Gen2 bike for that faster butterfly opened a bit quicker by the first year owner's complaints of lag and then freightrain here we come. First year had slow moving butterflies and happens to be your year. Since borrowing the '06 ECU and having flies present, that lag was not that bad, looking back. Now you have the next few years go by, factory opens the speed of the fly to match your throttle opening. Then, the opinions were to remove the fly altogether no matter the year. Others said there was such a slight difference, it really didn't much matter. So, bottom line you have to understand if two rents slow you down or one rent speeds your savings account back up; kind of think which would you choose and walk away from the controversy knowing the answer.

Some are saying that you get the same results from simply installing a PC and others are saying that you get much better throttle response, PC or not.
The PC or not, you created a faster event where the air can speed sooner entering into the engine, than the second door to move around, under over is that slower drag to the event into the cylinder chamber. She, the second fiddle, the sub, the fly, the butterfly is a drag on your life of right hand back and forth, up and down is now you get it when you want.

Then I think I also read something off the Brocks Performance site about the shift counter being affected if a PC is installed. Is this correct or did I misunderstand?
These are ever so slight fuel changes, if not even in the loop found another way, means, you are not ready yet. Stay stock with the air cleaners. Difference between both air cleaners is that one will eat your cylinder walls faster than the other. I also hear you lose HP throwing in too much air. Ask, kevincopperhead questions if you have problems understanding things. He will explain the concepts. Or... Keep reading the whack and welcome to the pack.

Thanks for the info Hub. I see you on many of the different threads. It is nice to have someone explain the different in's and out's. Bottom line is I want to dress up the rocketship before anything else, chrome wheels (still can't decide between th regular chrome and the black chrome. Black chrome is amazing and not to many people have it yet) and maybe the different exhaust. I am interested in the PC because when I hammer my 14 and roll off the throttle, it pops. At this point in the game, I don't necessarily feel that I need (or could really afford: hence the two rents :) extra performance, so to hear you say stick to stock for now makes me feel better. I just have a McGuiver type mind and like to understand what is what. Later on down the road, I'll plan on doing some performance mods. Most of my riding is done on the public roads and here in PA, there is so much traffic and the roads on average SUCK for anything high speed. The twisties are decent depending on the area, but I am not at full throttle or anything even close, so tires and handling are more important than overall top end or outright pulling power like on a track.

I can't believe that pipe hasn't moved yet ;) Patience Grasshopper I guess.

There is no getting away with the pop. You can stop the pop by installing the stock exhaust. There is plenty of bounce inside that pipe, you can hear it spit on lift, rather than pop. See, you never get rid of it, and now you throw fuel at it to stop it? What happens now is the traffic jam and the fuel bars are asking you if it is street only, why all the poor gas mileage everyone starts to create for performance and when do they use it? During the weekend? Some kid with a 600 is going to whip you and for WOT? More carbon to breath?

It was amazing to see how much waste I was throwing at that '06 injector and '08 ECU. Now I fill the tank a 1/3 less it seems? I am bone stock right now. A PC can (-) the fuel trim. This bike runs rich for it aims at that limiter 186 and slows the bike down the closer you reach that speed.

Think street, think stock. Dress the puppy up like you said. This bike needs a throttle body sync if you want any performance back. Pen Cell Tuck Key is long in highway, right? Better mileage all stock if you rather stay away from the gas pumps and pay the bills instead.

LOL, Pennsyltucky definitely has a lot of highway, but you'll never catch me anywhere close to the 186 mark around here. I want to see my two boys grow up and do better than me.

So the pop will always be there? I just checked out the threads in the accesorries link (I think it was that one) and saw that you had huge postings in there on this butterly/PC/piggy thing. Honestly, that is way over my head. You need to remember that I am used to putting jet kits in, my last rocket was my ZX-9. Think street, think stock is what I am looking to hear at this point anyway. I hear a bunch of bikes popping anyway at tracks like Mid-Ohio and MIR. So those guys obviously have more tuning capabilities than I do, and makes sense with what you said about never really getting away from it. Hell, my buddies CBR-1000 RR pops a little and that only has a Micron slip on.

Where are you from that you heard of Pennsyltucky? Normally, only residents of this "great" Commonwealth know about that one ;)

Ash, Go to the top of the page. Click "Home" then go to the bottom of the home page, click 'member profile' and you can open a thread. Tell us about the Pennsylvania Dutch country, the tapioca pudding, the amish contingent, Pocono, mountain ridge radar... Yeah, growing up on the east coast gives you a language problem you move away. Coffee and cough fee are how you can tell one is from the east or west with the slight accent.

Thanks for the info Hub, I appreciate it.

The Dutch thing is actually a synonym for a type of cooking, but you probably already knew that. Depends on who you talk to, but people even say that an apple pie is PA Dutch. Of course we also have older people talk about how "close" it is when the humidity goes up before it rains. The Amish, I don't even want to go there. I actually live just outside Amish country and road apples are absolutely NO fun!!! I hear of more buggy accidents nowadays than I care to talk about (Eziekiel must have been tipping the cider jar pretty far back). Pocono's is pretty nice, one of the only tracks that you can actually see almost all of. Nice mountains there as well. PA also has a Grand Canyon if you didn't know, it's in Tioga county close to the NY state line. Most people have all their teeth until you get below Pittsburgh towards WV, LOL. Not too many dragstrips though. Closest ones are Silver Springs (1/8th mile though), Cecil County, MD. and Old Englishtowne, NJ. Pretty good drive for the last two.

Crack me UP! No, thank you! A little 1/8th mile track down the road had it's day. The area was growing. We were waiting for Englishtown to open at the time anyway. They knew me by name, because I was there just about every weekend that didn't rain. You bring that track up, I remember waiting in line for trophies. I would pick them up, hand it to the first little kid I saw [walking away from the cash/trophy window]. I couldn't bring anymore home with me. You know parents; once I brought a few home wink-wink ("no racing under my roof" bla-bla)...

Hey Hub, sorry it's been so long. Had baseball and company picnic at Hershey Park. Boys loved it and had a good time. Hope you had a good weekend as well.

I hear you on the trophies. I don't have any drag trophies, but I have a ton from football and my mom still tells me that I need to bring them to my house. I just don't have the space, LOL. Where are you located? There are a bunch of us planning a nice ride this weekend 6-19-10. I have my boys every other week, and this weekend coming up is their moms turn, so I am RIDING!!!! Have you ever been to the Ephrata run? Obviously in Ephrata, and on a good weather day, packed with around 2,500 bikes. Happens on the first Sunday of every summer month and is a blast. You would meet so many people there from all over the place. I actually met guys from as far away as Canada. Good time.

acd, I'm on the west coast. I was born in Cali, live in NJ growing up. I remembered the Santa Monica mountains playing outside as a kid of 4. So, I had to come back to roost. Seems everyone has an annual bike bash, you could just tour to each one, starting with Daytona. Besides, my weekends are shot or short rides. Being a 24/7 caregiver, it ruins your weekends somewhat. You are there dishing out meds every 3 hours, so you have a daily schedule that takes your own time away from getting away. Lucky I can run for the drugs on the bike every now and then or I'd climb the walls even more.
