Suspension
06/24/14 10:39 PM

Anyone had their front forks revalved? I'm thinking about having mine done by Traxxion Dynamics suspension....

Also, thinking about getting a Penske for the rear....anyone using a Penske now?

Thanks in advance,

Troy

I have a Penske 8983 double clicker on the rear, sprung & valved for my weight, I have yet to make any adjustments to it from factory, as it just works! I am using Ohlins 20mm supersport valving in my forks with 1.1N/mm springs & 10W oil, if anything it could do with a touch more rebound dampening.

Yeah, that stuff is on the list. Bike needs downtime tho, unless you buy spare forks and send them in.

Racetech, litz racing are some other vendors.

Fortunately for me traxxion dynamics is 30 minutes from my house which makes it even more appealing. Drop my bike off 8am and it's back to me at 4pm completely done. Plus the additional benefit of additional setup if needed....

Probably going to go ahead and do it....but will still appreciate additional feedback or opinions.

I went with ohlins front and rear myself, but I ride with a couple of guys who have sent there forks to traxxion and there extremely happy. One of the guys is a retired road racer who really knows how a bike should handle and he's impressed. He also has a penske rear shock. If your that close I'd say it's a no brainer, they'll have that dialed in for you I'm sure.

Terrain, rider weight, riding style, and stock set up are all determining factors. You live in Georgia and that alone should get you to do the suspensions upgrade. If you're around 180-210LBS and ride conservatively you can probably get away with the stock set up if you can get it dialed up. Now if you wanna make it harder for 600 and liter bikes to pass you in the twisties, get the upgrade. If I remember correctly I have 25mm spring and my shock spring is rated for a 240LBS rider. I like my set up on the stiff side. The downside is that you're bike is going to be extremely picky. I can tell when the suspension oil is cold and I struggled when I was running the Pilot Road 3. Something about the carcass of the tires not being able to handle the stiff suspensions.

I would get the front forks internal upgraded, change the shock, increase rear height. You'll be able to lower the front a little since the suspension will be firmer and have a really corner thirty 14R. Add a 55 rear tire to complete the setting and you're golden. I have tried the Q2's and the PR3 in 55 and I'm currently running the Rosso Corsa. The DRC is taller and narrower than the other 2 and falls quicker. Keep us posted!

Thanks for all of the input....with gear I'm probably 235lbs, so a heavier spring will be a plus for sure. Running michelin pilot sports now, hopefully they will work out ok.

Shock is ordered and will probably have the bike in to have it installed and the forks revalved the 2nd week of July....looking forward to it.

Will let you know who it all turns out....

Thanks again,

Troy

I have had the bike back about a week from traxxion dynamics....what a HUGE difference. If your going to spend a bunch of money on horsepower and truly want to be able to use that horsepower of the street/track then you need to have the suspension reworked. Totally different bike....I had the front forks revalved with heavier springs and had a penske 8983 installed a heavier spring. It handled good before...now it's handles great....

This was my first dealing with traxxion and I Highly recommend them....Lee at traxxion took good care of me and if you ship your our forks to him it's usually only a week of total down time....

Troy

PS: They can also revalve your stock rear shock as well...a little less expensive and still much better than from the factory.

Congrats Troy, money well spent. I'm a huge fan of suspension work. Most people spend all there money chasing horsepower and totally ignore there suspension. I'm sure there's more than a few guys on here that have had there ecu flashed and have never even tried to adjust there forks/shock from the factory settings.

All I hear are good reviews of Traxxion Dynamics. I bet they would cut way into the Ohlins market if they only had some way to compete with the bling factor. Couldn't they at laest come up with a nice BOLD sticker to put on the forks?

No joke, TRoy. If I had the money, I'd pay the $2000 difference to have yellow forks and a little blue Ohlins emblem. I really think TD should offer some kind of appearance option with the forks upgrade but I guess all that would be visible on the 14 would be the bottom of the upper tube. The fork bottoms could always be done by someone else. It would be encouraging to have a long sticker that would go on the upper tube even if nobody could see it but me.

Perhaps I will mention this to them....although the rear shock reservoir does say penske and that's kinda cool :)

Congrats on the "new" bike tclogston. This is mod numero uno in my opinion. Anyone who think their suspension are great need to ride faster or eat a burger! I actually thought my suspensions needed adjustments but I threw the DRC back on and I'm back leading the pack lol. The other day, I had time to park the bike, remove my helmet and gloves and send a text before the rest of the group caught up. lol

Take your time getting used to it and take the bike to your favorite road... the riding becomes telepathic.

Waiting for the pics!
