Noticed some oil today!
08/15/12 9:43 PM

Finally had a chance to get my 14 out today and ride it to work. When I came out I noticed some oil on the ground by the kick stand. After further inspection I noticed it coming from one of the hoses by the kick stand no doubt from the crankcase breather and/or PCV is my first guess. Not sure exactly where that hose runs from.

Is that normal? It was a hot day today and I was stuck in a good bit of traffic. Is that normal? The bikes only 3 months old. Just trying to figure out if it warrants a trip to the dealer or is it expected behavior in certain conditions?

If you look above the stand there are a couple small canisters in line with a hose that goes to the petrol fill neck and another that I think goes to the air box. The one passing the oil is higher and back a bit. I would check my oil level. If the dealer did the 600 mile oil change, ask them about it. I have over 11,000 miles on my 2012 and both canisters are clean

Get ya an led pen flashlight...check around under there...may be nothing really...or...like was mentioned...some blow back from an oil change or something.Usually it won't come from the airbox...BUT....you could get some crankcase blowby depending on how hard she's being ridden.

I had the same symptoms on my '09, a little bit of oil coming from the breather hose, most noticeable when parked in the sun in hot weather. It turned out to be the oil level was too high, getting the level correct stopped the oil seep.

I was setting the oil level with the bike on a rear stand, this incline is enough to show overfilled when the bike is on both tires and straight up.

Thanks guys. This was a very hot day and I got stuck in a lot of stop and go traffic. I checked it after its been sitting all day in the garage and no oil so... Hopefully no big deal. I'll recheck the oil level as well.

This is a common issue; mine does it as do many others. I believe it is fuel draining off because of excess pressure in the tank caused by heat and fuel expansion. Open the tank when you see this happening and you will hear the pressure escaping from the tank’s filler neck. I doubt you will find any fuel or oil in those little plastic canisters as I haven’t. It only seems to happen when the bike sits out in the hot sun. I've never seen it happen in my garage.

Have had this on my 08. Just a bit in one of the bottles. Think it was the airbox drain. No biggy.

Ummm, I did this recently to a cycle that I had just topped off with fuel, and then parked in my (Tucson, AZ) hot garage.

Bottomline: If ya fill it with fuel to above the tank neck line, *DO NOT* open that gas cap. The pressurized tank will have hot gas all over your cycle in seconds, as the pressure lifts it out of the tank.

The users manual also states to not fill the tank to a level above the neck line. Dont ask why I ignore that rule...
