Anyone using the Driven Alumitech Grips with the Throttlemeister bar ends? Just want to know if there are any issues, I'm looking to buy me a set if their are no issues.

I have very inexpensive Chinese knockoffs. I like them. Look nice. No other advantage, really. They work just fine.

They are an incredible bitch to get on the bars. Because of the aluminum tube outer shell, the inside rubber will not expand freely like all rubber grips. Use plenty of soap. they'll go about half way. Use a large socket placed against the outside of the grip and tap it on the rest of the way. When it comes time to remove, you will need to cut them off.

My throttle grip would not go on the grey tube far enough to cover the last inner sixteenth /inch. No big deal. not real noticeable. You might paint the last bit of tube black before installing and it would never show. The left side was not long enough to cover the entire bar. I have a bar end mirror bracket that clamps on that bit of left over bar so it works for me. As i said, mine were cheap knock offs. Don't know if the real things are like this.

I have the first one and they look great, some people hate hard grips but I have no complains except that they fade a little bit depending of the gloves you use. Must be the stingray in my Helds.

Best looking grip in my opinion... I'am even thinking about adding this... just for show

I know that it was probably not what's its maker intended but I'm turning the ZX-14 into a road racing bike with sport touring sensibility of course! LOL

Those are real nice.

Dragking
That look like it fits just perfect with no issues.

But my concern is how will they work with my Throttlemeister? Any binding issues our what not.

All you will need is an actual measurement of the grip you're planning to go with... because of the space between the Rizoma Grips and OEM bar ends, I'm incline to think you should be ok. I had Driven 3D grips and there was a similar gap with those. How far does the TM come on the bar?

Just had a look at my 08 with D-3(ish) CHinese copies. The gap 'tween the throttle cable case and the grip is more like a quarter inch. I think there is a gap outboard by the bar end. I have bar end mirrors which have brackets that fill the gap. I don't know how close these are to genuine Rizomas.

Okay I think I might have rushed into getting the Driven D3 grips. Left side fit perfect, RT side is not working out with my TM. As you look at the pics, I have the TM and the sleeve on the seat, well that black sleeve needs to go on before I put the grip on because that is what the TM uses to control or hold the throttle in place. If there wasn't a ring on the end of the grip I might of been able to get on? Any Ideals out there???

Same experience with my Chinas. They copied them perfectly!

My throttle grip would not go on the grey tube far enough to cover the last inner sixteenth /inch.

You cannot slide the controls pod in. It has notches that fit up to small teeth for positioning. It does not seem that it would give enough extra space at the bar end but you could gain an eighth inch if you filed down that rib on the throttle tube so the grip would slide up to the throttle case (that is actually causing a throttle sticking hazard).

Good luck getting that puppy off of there intact. Get out yer can opener.

I would just install the bar ends. Try a few O-rings on the grip. Roll them into the notch on the exposed grey throttle tube. That might work almost as good as TM and cheaper. Nice looking bar ends though.

My right hand has been bothering me a bit with my new bike. I bought a pair of the Driven D3's but i have not put them on yet. I dont have a throttle master, everythings stock on the bars. Am i right in assuming that the D3's are a good fit without the TM? I have read through the thread and it sounds like they can be a bear to get on, but am I correct in assuming that they fit ok as long as you dont have a TM installed?

I bought them for my zx10 and my zx14. With track duty they wore out knowledge nda fast. Switched to the Chinese knowk offs. Same feel for half the cost. I use bar end mirrors so hqd to trim the throttle side down by the grip and use washers on bar ends to get clearance for smooth throttle play. Would not spring back freely sometimes

Good luck.

Me too. The Chinese work fine with my bar end mirrors (the bar end bracket actually fills the gap on the left bar)....never did get the thing to go on the last eighth inch of the throttle tube. I suppose that is why mine does not stick.

Use PLENTY of dish soap and a few drops of water. Use a large socket to place against the outer end of the grip and tap the socket with a hammer.. That will get the thing on the last inch or two.

The problem is the aluminum casing will not allow the rubber to expand. It squeezes awfully hard.

Still can't see how they ever will come off when worn out. Razor knife through the aluminum, I suppose.

oh i see I posted about all this info a long time ago..

Thanks Rook. I have read many of your posts and "how to's". Based upon my respect of your overall knowledge of the bike, your "good luck" comment has me thinking about sending them back and not fooling with it right now.

I really meant good luck if you don't get the inside story. You can do it but it will be a lot more trouble than all rubber grips.

They are impossible to get on all the way unless you use the hammer and socket tap trick mentioned before. that should do it for you if you soap the bar and the inside of the grip thoroughly....and just a few drops of water to get the soap slippery as possible. You will not get the throttle grip all the way in but no one will notice.

I finally put these on yesterday. Rode for about 25 miles today, and I like them so far. They look nice on the bike.
The hammer and socket trick worked well on the throttle side....thanks for the tip.

I don't like any of the metal collar grips, I tried driven d3s on my 07 R1, I'm pretty light on the bars but tend to grip more on the insides and for short rides they are fine, anything over 50 miles they don't work for me, become uncomfortable, look cool though IMO

Well, I have been experiencing cramping in my thumb and index finger, throttle side. My hope is the indentation where the collar is will relieve some pressure.

Could be just age and wear and tear on my part. I kinda analyzed my grip while riding, how much weight from my upper body was resting on my arms, etc....seems good. left hand is fine.

I have some other grips here at the house to try, but Im gonna roll with these for a bit.....to Rooks point, it may take destroying them to get them off, so i need some more time with them....will update as the weather should be nice middle next week and i plan on taking a longer ride when i can.
