Header
06/07/13 8:16 AM

Hi,

I am sure that a topic like this exists, but I was having less than success in finding it.

I would like to buy a header for my 2009 14 that has an O2 bung already welded on it.

I found a few, one of which made by Muzzy, but the problem is, I still want the header to split (Y) into a dual exhaust design; I like symmetry.

Does anyone know of a performance header with the O2 bung already installed that Y's into two mufflers?

Thanks you in advance.

Akra makes one for around $500 or so. It was meant for their dual slipons to convert them to a full system. I would assume they will work with any dual slipon out there. I plan to build my own system with slipons and Akra's headers.

I have a used stock OEM '08 header with bung. I don't know if you want to run something lighter, but there is your Y and bung w/plug. Make an offer we can both be happy with. I have no clue what they go for? You want both pipes to cut up? I know the shipping is going to cost. Make an offer for all and figure 80 bucks for shipping that kind of weight?

Hi,

Nasty:
When I search the Akra webpage, I can find the ones you speak of, but when I enter the year of my bike, it no longer offers it as a fitting item. Plus I don't see any performance specs on it either. Any other suggestions?

Hub:
Are you able to provide a photo of the header overall and a photo focusing a little more on the welded bung? I am interested but worried about quality. Also, does it fit a 2009 directly?

I'm a bit confused as to your goal here. If you are looking for the best performance, it makes sense to buy a lightweight full system such as the Muzzy M14 or the Brocks Alienhead. If you are more concerned with looks, keep your stock header and go for some slip-ons. Personally, I think the Two Brothers look good. Any header you get is going to make less power than those two, plus it's going to add about 10 lbs. One more thing to consider with dual exhaust is that it's more to clean, especially since it's right above your chain.

This kinda reminds me of the old Suzuki GT750 which was a triple, but had 4 pipes out the back. Their reason was that three pipes would look uneven, and the public wouldn't like it.

Yes, I am looking for a performance upgrade header.

But, I need one that is either stainless steel, or one that already has O2 bung already installed (which is what I prefer, one with the bung already installed). I need the bung for the Autotune (for the Power Commander V)

As for Akra, when I go to their website, I can find the header you speak of, but when I enter the year of my ZX14, that header disappears as an option for my bike saying it does not fit. I have a 2009 ZX14.

If I can't find a performance header with the O2 bung, I might settle for a stock one that already has it installed.

Currently, I plan on getting Yoshi slip ons later this year, but as stated before, I want the symmetrical look having an exhaust on each side. Most headers I am finding that are performance only have a single side outlet.

HUB,

My email is nickwroberts@gmail.com.

If you can provide some photos of your header and maybe we can exchange phone numbers via email to chat about it more.

Thanks,
Nick

Nick,

It's not that I don't want to sell the part, but look at it like this. I have no idea where you live? That means I've looked up headers for the 14 on ebay and they are cheap enough to save you shipping from one end of the coast to another, if say there was a header closer to you? That means that you could buy the bung, have it welded on for less than pay me to ship it. That partial shipping would go to the bung and weld: you sort of break even.

I'll mail a few photos to your mail address. You call it.

All stock exhaust headers for the ZX14 are a 400 series stainless steel. It does oxidize (rust) a little and can be cold-worked to magnetize (the cold-work alters the crystal domains so they will line up). If you need welding service use 309L filler material.
