What did you pay for you're NEW ZX14?
11/27/09 8:59 AM

Hey everyone,

What did everyone here that's from the USA pay for his NEW zx-14 ? And Where??

The reason im asking is because of the current dollar courses, they are so low its rediculous,
and if it stays this way ill be getting a ZX14 next summer to the Netherlands. I contacted
a transport company, and it will cost around 1800 euro's for the transport, the license
plate, and the road-ready thing for the Netherlands here. And even with that price
i still seem to cheaper than buying one here.

Also, im asking what you paid because the NEW ZZR14's here cost around 16.000. isnt this just a damn
high price?

So... What did u pay for ur ZX14 ?

Thx!!

11,500 American dollars, tax, license plate, dealer prep, documentation fee all included. No extended warranty purchased ---back in early 08. I think you should be able to pick up an '08 for 10,000 US dollars + dealer prep which is about $200 if i recall.

Thanks bud,

Any chance you have a website for me where to look at for those new ZX14's?

Also, does anyone have ANY idea why the ZX14's in the USA are SOOO much cheaper than the ZZR14's
in Europe??

"Ouch....16,300 in Canada in the year 2007"

$10,500, out the door all in including all taxes, the bike was listed at $9999.00 here in Canada out West... brand new in the box 2008 Midnight Saphire Blue bought in January of 2009.... I bought the extended warranty worth it in my opinion.... think there are still some 08 kicking around in Canada as well...

Fuzz i'm glad to see you got a great price. When the 2006 zx-14 hit the street it became a must have after all the great reviews..... That's when I went looking and as luck would have it, I could not get one anywhere. So I ordered the the 2007. Shortly after our dollar shot up and price dropped.... Just bad timing was all. Now there is some amazing deals out there. Manufactures are not making as many new bikes now due to the global economic down turn and I would expect to see prices start creep back up. So if you can pick up the Big girl for 8500 that's a big wow in my Book. Allot of bike for the money. Cheers.

Thanks for the replies for far!!

I wondered by the way. Does the 2009 model fix anything with the heating? or you'd still need ice coolant, full synthetic oil and muzzy's fan ? ... well need, "could "

I paid $9,995 out the door. Only it was $800 for the 5 year extended warranty. Murphy's Law says that if you buy the warranty you won’t need it, but if you don't...well, you know.
Then there were all the mods listed below which come to about $5000.
Custom lightning bolt paint job, Muzzy CF mufflers, Corbin custom seat, Marchesini wheels, Dunlop Qualifiers, Dyno Jet PCIII, custom FAICS map, K&N Air Filter, Supersprox 43 tooth sprocket, EK chain, MRA windscreen, Race Railz frame sliders, Sato Racing axle sliders, ST Machine footpegs and levers, Engine Ice coolant, Muzzy aluminum fan, ceramic coated headers and midpipes (cat removed), , Pro Grip Gel handgrips, Gen Mar clip on risers, Dowco tank and tail bags, and a Rumble fender eliminator.

I have no issues with heat even when the merc was up in the 90's... its a hot running bike... never been to the max on the heat, 1 bar below and that was sitting in traffic with temps in the 90's, I found that when I switch to synthetic oil it helped with that as well...

You might be careful to avoid getting stuck in 90 F weather for 30 minutes and barely moving in a traffic jam when the bike is new. It will run a bit cooler after it breaks in. I really don't find it all that uncomfortable. It is no issue whatsoever over 45 mph.

9 out of 10 owners of zx-14s says they are uncomfortably hot in stop-and-go traffic on hot days, it seems.

There will always be a few owners who insist otherwise.

And no, as it turns out, the 09 made exactly zero changes to the 08 except the paint scheme, and so far, the same looks to be true for the 2010 model as well.

Mine cooked me riding to work with all the stoplights last summer, even more so riding home. On some club rides, going 70-ish mph, on very hot days, I could feel the engine heat at speed. And I broke it in by keeping the speed varying, the gears varying, the rpm varying, and never over the arbitrary rpm limit set by the manual. So its getting better, but still very hot.

I have the skin off it now, up on stands, so I can change some things over the winter. I noticed all the foam heat blocks were in place as designed. So the shop never lost any of them either. I've got Dubious' brackets and a carbon fiber 06 ZX10 front fender which I'll put on, and I'm looking at the radiator intently, and about decided to upgrade the cooling arrangement.

Matsuke,
The dealer from whom I bought my bike is called OTD Cycle Sports. The web site is otdcyclesports.com
They have a few locations in California. Thats a long way from you. They have the lowest price out the door, of anyone around here for sure. Their service dept sucks but you won't have to worry about that.
Good luck

Why not buy a used bike and save another $2-3K?
I paid $9K otd for my 07 14 in April 08 and $8K otd for my gf's 07 gsxr 1000.
Her 09 R1 was around $10K otd and my six months old used 08 gsxr 750 was a steal at $6K with 1,000 miles on the clock.

Forgot to mention- these were all cash in hand otd prices and financing would have added roughly 10% to the otd number from my local dealers.

Thx Sharkey

Mass,

Thing that's bothering me is that if i would buy a second handed bike from the USA for example,
i will be never sure if the bike is in the condition i expect it to be. And the thing that's
so seductive for me is the huge price gap between a new ZZR14 in Europe, and a new ZX14
in America. Its around 5 grand. It's just insane.

Also, not sure if anyone has a answer to this:

Most things seem to be the same between the ZZR and the ZX, but one thing (lookwise) i have my
questions marks with: You know the handlebar at the passenger seat the ZZR has?

I highly prefer the backseat cover since i think it looks way smoother :

Question: How are those handlebars put onto the ZZR14, and is it easily swappable
to the Backcover that the ZX14 originally has?

Thanks

I can't say for sure because I have never seen a passenger grab rail. There are a number of smaller screws back there that might hold it down but the most likely ones would seem to be the large bolts that hold the rails together right at the tip of the tail frame. It would not be something you would want to swap back and forth between all the time if that is the way the hand rail fastens to the bike. You would need to remove the tail fairings on the side and unclip the directional lights then put it all back together.

The seat cowl is not bad to take off and put back on. Just 6 phillips screws under the seat.

I believe this is where the grabrail would mount. There are no screws in these holes under the small tail piece on a ZX-14. You just have to take off the seat and remove the two screws. Would take a few minutes. Oh -and I guess you would also need to remove the seat cowl to get the seat back on with the grabrail installed.

Thanks bud - Good news for me, i was scared it was somehow attached to the outside
of the bike, and i would have ugly holes somewhere.

Na, I doubt it. Looking at pics of ZZRs, it looks like the grabrail lays close to the top of that small plastic fairing behind the seat. It definitely mounts underneath and I'm sure the places with the 2 empty screw holes is where. there's a depression in the frame around each screw hole and there would be no other purpose for that other than to mount something on there. It would be very easy to reinstall the grabrail if you wanted to.
