Pair removal/problems
06/05/14 8:28 AM

I own a 2009 zx14 49 state motorcycle that I bought New. Love it and am very happy with it. Everything is OEM/Stock from the factory. The exhaust/mufflers and header are ALL factory/oem. I am very happy with the performance and appreciate not having the noise associated with loud mufflers/straight pipes that I had for YEARS as I am a previous Harley rider for YEARS. When I purchased my SPORTBIKE/SUPERBIKE I stepped into a WHOLE differant world. Now for the question. When and if I remove the pair valve and either block the reed plates with Muzzy or if I do the rubber hose from one reed valve to the other which looks very clean and of course block the hose going into the airbox will the 14 continue to run smooth or will I have to do any other modification. The reason I am considering this is to so to speak CLEAN UP the top of the engine as to the Great ROOK'S comments on cleaning up the top of the motor. As I get closer to the 15000 mile valve adjustment and when I take off the plastic I see a WHOLE lot of clutter on the top of this MONSTER and ask "is all this stuff necessary"? I await any and ALL comments and SUGGESTIONS. Thanks

Pair:
1. Clean ports
2. Low emissions
3. Lean running
4. Crispy smooth

Pair Plugged:

A. Loads up carbon at the exhaust ports
B. Emissions are scotched
C. Rich Running from 16 to 14 AFR
D. Extra smooth

Pair Removal:

I. Less clutter
II. Less weight
III. May set a code if air actuator is disconnected
IV. May need to experiment with a resistor to see if the right voltage value will turn the light off
V. Remove everything but keep the air actuator connected and zip-tied somewhere

What about the cats in the OEM exhaust? Will they be damaged by the dirtier emissions?

The air actuator must be that white connector that goes to the solenoid. That's the only wire that needs to be disconnected. I never saw a code from mine. If that was a common problem, I would imagine Muzzy would have included some kind of terminator plug by now.
