Aluminum, rims
08/03/16 6:48 PM

Found interesting rims called Braking B1 which are compatible with my zx. Not much is written about them except that weight is comparable to oem (zx10 wheel weight). Also special sprocket and rotor are needed. The rims are no longer produced but can be found for a fair price.

The rims are cast aluminum and look better to me than oem. The price is much better than Carrozzaria. Any thoughts?

Potholes may be an issue on the street so maybe for the track they would be good?

Heard of Braking rotors. I'd get the exact weight if possible and see how that compares to the price of ZX-10 rims and Carrazzeria or Oz. Also compare to BST weight and price I can tell you what my Carros weigh if you want, Nova. Looks cool. If they are cheap enough to win your heart go for it. BST is the benchmark but the price!!!

After some more searching, came upon a 10R forum where a guy weighed his 08 oem vs B1 and this was his finding,
"total weight 33.37LBS vs 23.1LBS. A savings of 10.27 LBS"

I already have the ZX6 rims installed on my bike (same as zx10 except the rear rim is 5.5" vs 6") Just dont like the holes around the axle casing of oem. Not something I need to replace just want.

Wheel weights are always so obscure because of things like rotor, sprockets spacers and such. here's my CZ Tri-R weights.

Front wheel with bearings and valve stem (no rotors no spacers --uses stock spacers-- no rotor bolts) 7lb, 5.5 oz.

Rear wheel with bearings, rotor carrier, brake carrier, CZ spacers and valve stem (no rotor or rotor bolts, no sprocket but not sure if sprocket nuts were on) 12 lb 6.3 oz

Thanks Rook. Those tri r you have are impressive. Doubt i will notice much
In handling, they just look cool.

It is usually very difficult to assess mods right away. My initial impressions of the Tri-Rs was that they made turn in quicker but I was not able to use the added speed because there was still the rest of the bike to handle. It probably has to do with reduced gyroscopic effect of a lighter wheel but still you have the weight of the bike. Also, I did feel the wheel responded to throttle quicker. This made me less confident on the throttle in a corner than I was with the heavier OEM rims. Took a couple years to really get used to it.

So i placed the order on the rims and should get them next week. Will weigh them in same way you did to get comparison. Need to get a decent scale first. Also need to get rear sprocket and rotor then tires. Made me think of Chris Rock routine about "black ppl and rims.

You'll have to show off your new re-ums! I felt the same way. Pretty fly for a white guy.

On that note.. He's getting new wheels yeah, he's getting rims dunn, he just turned 46 but acts like 21..some say he's trying too hard and not quite hip, but in his
Own mind he's the fastest kid. Give it to him baby...."
Sorry, couldnt pass it up.
Think I'll use the UPS scale.

I think less expensive scales are pretty much accurate. I spent about $70 on a postal scale and it doesn't seem any better at measuring stuff a few ounces to a couple pounds. Seems no more accurate even to the tenth of an ounce. Heavier weight objects might require a higher quality scale.

This thread is fortuitous: I now know why Montana let these BSTs go for a song.

The OEM wheels weigh what they do for a very specific reason... particularly the front wheel.

My bet is hag's talking about that. ^^ IMO, the rear wheel is where it feels more sketchy. I wouldn't go back to OEM but like I said before, it took some getting used to.

Got my rims today and had them weighed then got tires
Mounted. Removed bolts and spacers before weighing,
Front 11.5 lbs and rear 18 lbs. So it is a performance downgrade.
The quality and condition are top notch.

Just need sprocket and rear rotor.

Those will look hot as hell on the bike.

Downgrade compared to ZX-6 wheels or OEM? With rotor and aluminum sprocket, my OEM rear was almost 23 lb 6 oz. Gotta be a little lighter than stock ZX-14 wheels.

Thanks Rook and cant wait to put them on bike. These rims have a better weight distribution than oem. The design got my attention With tires and rest of components my bill is $800.
If i can sell my current wheels I'll be happy.
