Advice on windscreens
04/28/10 11:18 PM

I want to change out my windscreen for long trips but I'm 6'5" so I'm not sure what my best options are. I prefer the look of the double bubble but I don't know if it will make any difference. Is a double bubble feasible for someone my height or do I need to go with a touring windscreen?

Man at 6'5" I dont know! The only one I can think of that dont look like crap is that windscreen Kawaski sells that has the holes in it, they call it a touring windscreen for the 14. I saw it at the motorcycle show it didn't look half bad and looked like it would do the job.

To much to list!

your going to want a zg screen (or similar touring version) with a laminar lip, you can install it on a stock bike http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=461016 it really deflects, but on a higher screen you should be wind free.

I just installed a Puig DB windscreen today. I'm 6-2 and my bike has a cut down Councours 14 seat and GenMar risers.

Just got back from a ride on the interstate. Wind now hits me in the middle/upper part of the helmet in my normal riding position.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going with the Laminar Lip and will see how that works out. I'm not a fan at all of the look of a touring screen and the lip seems like a good alternative to that.

9secondsflat - the way I read your post is that I would add the Laminar Lip to a touring screen? Is that what you meant? I didn't see anything on Laminar's site about that.

The one that Kawi sells is made by MRA and can be had at Twistedthrottle.com It is said to work well and is much cheaper than buying through Kawasaki.

Hi. I fitted a double bubble but tossed it cause the wind causes lotsa turbulence when going seriously fast...260+. I fitted the MRA touring screen with the two holes and is much better. Works for me.

68gts,

How do you like you like that windscreen? I just bought the Kawasaki windscreen that only gives me an inch and a half above stock. I'm 6'3" an I don't like the look of a tall windscreen. Just looking for a little more wind protection.

Dose anyone with the MRA or the Kawasaki windscreen have good or bad feedback on them?

I've got the MRA Touring screen.I really like it.It's the same one that the Kawi site has on there.Good windflow,NO buffeting.Quiet,smooth.Looks good. Not standoutish...looks stock almost.Smoked grey.I'm 6'1",and it works very well at flowing any wind to my upper chest area, and my helmet stays in the windstream where it's smooth and way less noisy.Best I've used yet...my stock screen is a close second however. When I tuck down and get my head completely under the lip, there is a sweet spot where there's NO noise except for the pipes and engine.NO wind at all.Looking right through the screen.Really enhances the "higher" speed rollings(and lower speeds as well). But much nicer when carving fast and being "one" with my baby.Really a nice screen.

Every once in a while I can see a cage rider as they're goin by(oncoming). They seem to have a strange look on their face like"WTHe#$?" Just thinkin about that.It must look kinda strange tryin to figure out where the "rider" is on "that bike"?All they can really see sometimes is the very top of my helmet above the lip, which from the front probably looks like part of the windscreen! I mean...I've got my feet and legs tucked in as tight as possible, and my forearms and chest are flat against the tank....Only part stickin out(barely)is my fingertips holdin the bar ends.It must look pretty weird alright!

Blue, that was from my girlfriend!! She asked if the holes are to look through! Mmm, I had to educate her a bit. Anyways, made me laugh. Cheers from a cold SA. Weather should be good on Sunday, hopefully. Can get a nice ride in.

Hey Slidderhd...hope everything's going great for ya....ministering out there and getting a lot of folks ready.Nah...no Yosh's.These are TiForce slip-ons-high mount.I really like em.Give a good amount of pep to the Bluebird.....not annoyingly loud...but somewhat aggressive and growly on the low rpm side.Nice deep rumble at idle. They will scream if I open er up however.Course,it's kinda hard to hear em when yer travelin faster than the speed of sound!WoHooooo!Bless the Lord oh my soul, and forget not ALL of His benefits!(He maketh the Ninja 14 to be the King of all two wheel beasts of the field!)His mercy endureth FOREVER!!!!!Bless the Lord I say!

OK here is my report on the Kawasaki windshield this is the correct name Kawi gives it. I went away for the Americade week and I'm happy to report that I love it and the look is even winning me over. If anyone is thinking about getting one it is a must for 6 foot and taller people.

That's my 2 cents...

Man, at 6'5", I think he'll be hard-pressed to find one that will be even half-way effective. I'm 6'3" and the ZG touring screen (the ugly one) hits me just below the neck.

I am sitting up quite a bit due to the LSL handlebar conversion, and have the ZG Sport Touring (ugly) shield and like it.

But I'm going to add a Vario extension to the top of it, because over the winter I'm coming up and back more on the handlebar by switching to a Superbike High bar and adding Spiegler riser clamps. Means I have to buy longer throttle, longer hydraulic clutch line, longer upper brake line, and lengthen my control cables. But it will be worth it.

And I might even put small side wings on it, too.
