ZX10 fender change out
07/02/12 2:00 PM

I finally broke down and order the ZX10 brackets from Two Wheel Werks instead of fabricating them up myself. $60 +shipping is not cheap but turns out my time was nominal for this so I just bit the bullet, turned the other way when I clicked the "Buy" button on Paypal. Didn't feel too much pain... couple of photos here:

Good news: I noticed an immediate difference in the airflow around the fender affecting the handling: it loosened up a lot, enough that I had to crank down on my dampener a turn or two. Handling feels more responsive.

Excellent news: I dropped at least two to three bars on the temp gauge so that alone made it worth it for me. I think I paid around $35 for the ZX10 fender back a few years ago and it was already black so no painting involved.

Not so good news: All said and done, I'm not really sure I like the look all that much, the ZX10 fender looks pretty bunched up under the cowl so time will tell if I keep it on.

I got this project done for around a $100 which I think is not too bad. I see guys spend a lot more for this fender and then have the painting on top of that. Eventually I'd like to put in the water wetter radiator ICE and wrap the pipes to drop the temps even more. It should be as cool as a Vespa scooter after that.

Do you have a radiator guard? If not, recommend you get one. The ZX10 fender won't knock stuff outwards because it doesn't have the air deflectors the stock fender has.

So the chances you get a nasty rock in your radiator go up exponentially.

I want to buy exactly this same thing for my N/A 14 so if you want to sell it anytime soon, hit me up. Thanks.

For those that have done the zx10 front fender mod, how did you secure the brake line that goes over the back of the fender?

I have just fitted this and need to find an easy way to secure the brake line. any ideas???

Neil

Mine came with the 10R fender and a braided-stainless down line, but still had the rubber crossover, which was secured to the fender with two black plastic zip ties. When I put on the stainless crossover, it was stiff enough that no attachment seemed necessary.

Sorry, Neil, I forgot yours was a bespoke fneder. The 10R fender has two holes at the rear for loop tabs that normally secure the brake line.

Correct, the 10R fender has holes in the back to put the plastic loop tabs in.

When I switched mine to a MDI carbon fiber 10R fender, even that had the holes in it. Since I had cut my old tabs off I used new ones and it made a neat job of it.

All,
What year OEM zx10 fender will fit the zx14 (with brackets). Is this exchange limited to 06-07 zx10 fender?

Thanks in advance.

Well...looks like you 'may' be out of luck getting a lime green fender....the later models have a different design to the fender shape as well. The 'arms' are shaped with a more square shape to em.Those will fit however...I had a CPB on mine...it fit very nicely.(on my 07 zx14).2008 model year I believe it was.I fashioned my own brackets from the stock 14 fender brackets.Worked very well.Lost interest in the shape and size of it though.I also had some aero issues at anything past 150.

TheBigNinja, only the 06-07 ZX10R fender seems to work with the available brackets.

I see no reason why a current version couldn't work if you fabricated your brackets, unless it is because it is wider than the ZX14 fender, and so won't fit. Or narrower, which you might be able to fabricate around.

... and you do want to secure the brake lines on the ZX10 fender just like ion the replaced ZX14 one because if you don't, every time you hit a bump you can hear them thrashing against the fender.

I have my crossover and down line tied together with a zip tie and they don't seem to be flopping around at all. Maybe the braided stainless lines are stiff enough to resist that.
