I finally broke down and order the ZX10 brackets from Two Wheel Werks instead of fabricating them up myself. $60 +shipping is not cheap but turns out my time was nominal for this so I just bit the bullet, turned the other way when I clicked the "Buy" button on Paypal. Didn't feel too much pain... couple of photos here:

Good news: I noticed an immediate difference in the airflow around the fender affecting the handling: it loosened up a lot, enough that I had to crank down on my dampener a turn or two. Handling feels more responsive.
Excellent news: I dropped at least two to three bars on the temp gauge so that alone made it worth it for me. I think I paid around $35 for the ZX10 fender back a few years ago and it was already black so no painting involved.
Not so good news: All said and done, I'm not really sure I like the look all that much, the ZX10 fender looks pretty bunched up under the cowl so time will tell if I keep it on.
I got this project done for around a $100 which I think is not too bad. I see guys spend a lot more for this fender and then have the painting on top of that. Eventually I'd like to put in the water wetter radiator ICE and wrap the pipes to drop the temps even more. It should be as cool as a Vespa scooter after that.
