Just picked up an '06 ZX-14!!
05/13/12 9:16 PM

Hello,

I'm pretty excited...I just picked up a 2006 ZX-14...in my favorite color! The bike is in fantastic condition, it has under 1,500 miles!

I was debating the newer '12, but thought I'd try a used one first before I make the bigger investment of a '12.

Here is one pic I took off of ebay of the bike. It also comes with the pillion rear cowl and tank bag.

Looks COOL. Amazing to find an 06 with miles that low. Pull flies, throw on a pipe and a PC and that's more power you're going to use on the street.

Congrats on the great find!!!
As a original 06 owner I firmly second the fly removal and power commander!! I feel it actually makes the bike safer. Beats having the ecu surprise you midcorner with a hp boost.
Pipe? Well not so much.
Unless you like spending money...., I got a terrific deal on a race pipe and really didnt need the small % of gain for street.
But as a status and make more noise thing....,money well spent I guess.

After 30,000 miles,6 yrs of ownership my favorite things I've done. in order of usefulness and pleasurably;
`
Custom seat, best dollars spent period.
Fly removal with custom map. Now I control throttle input and power increase not ecu. Added lots of lowend too
Dont forget to block off air injection for correct A/F readings for map.
-1 tooth counter sprocket. Wakes up lowend more and can creep in city traffic without slippin clutch.
Heavier clutch springs....,just do it. Got mine from Brocks
Penske shock and revalved forks. heavier springs in both.
Made the 14 a different bike. Not a cushy cruiser anymore, but hell on track days and in canyons.
stock stuff is decent if you weight 140 lbs.
Cox radiator screen and manual fan switch. Pulled lots of dents out of screen instead of spendy radiator.
My 06 is one of the very hot ones. I just hit switch as soon as I hit slow traffic, no problems with heat.
Bar risers
3/4" is good, 1" better, stacked I didnt like. Spiegler kit next.
Puig double bubble racing screen, great for track and street,
Zero Gravity tall (touring) screen for winter and long trips.
Custom cut stomp pads for tank.
traction for braking and keeping pressure on bars light.
Tsukigi Stainless racing pipes. looks good, very durable for this year round rider. Really loud...,sigh. Decent HP numbers but Muzzy/Brocks are the best. I needed tough heavy pipes.
Did lots of other stuff I aint gonna bother .mention.
I do suggest grinding kickstand so it allows the bike to lean more.

Have really enjoyed this bike and look forward to many more miles.

Congratulations but I recommend you drain the tank and put in all fresh fluids before you ride her!

very true, I don't hit the higher numbers for long in my street riding and very rarely, higher than 3rd gear... but IMHO the bike feels so much different when it spins up to 4K or more with a full system on. It all depends on how you ride, but the weight loss of a full system is something that is always very nice.

Congrats on your purchase. You're going to love that bike. I was fortunate enough to pick up an '06 myself a week ago Monday to go along with the Monster Edition I already have. It's still in TX and I'm in NC but I feel like a kid before Christmas waiting to be able to go pick it up. Keep us updated on your experiences with the bike. Take care and keep it on two wheels.

Beautiful bike Joe, exact same year and color I have, cept' mine is boosted Contact Ivan at Rockland County Motorsports, he has a map/tre/flies out set-up that will blow you away. Me, Kruz, and a few others ran it and the change to your bikes low end/midrange will be unbelieveable. It'll go from soggy below 5 grand to tire spinning, eyeball straining power pretty much off idle. The transformation is huge....and even better with a good flowing set of slip-ons installed. I doubt you'll want any more power once you get you're bike properly set up
