Those are some nice pipes, Maddy. But without other modifications (Power Commander, ECU reflash etc.) the main performance advantage of slip-ons is weight reduction. And they probably sound a lot better than stock cans. They definetly look better.

Factory exhausts are so well-engineered these days, there is little performance gain to be had in the aftermarket. Looks and sound are a different animal.

Yep basically looks and sounds, performance difference will be mostly if not all in your head (even with all the tuning stuff). If you want to reduce weight significantly no real option to go with a single sided exhaust (full titanium if you're really serious).

I'm not familiar with that brand, but I think they look sweet!

It's been a while since I priced slipons but I recall about $600 for M-4 retro drags. That's about as light as you'll get in a slipon. Also best looking by far IMO.

Search and you'll find better pics than this. This is considered fairly loud for a slipon.
Retro drag slipons

Now this is just the shit right here. A lot of people prefer the look of dual exhaust. This is the single sided full system.
Retro Drag full system

Here's my opinion on aftermarket exhausts. It's based on hours of contemplation and lots of questions of others who are more knowledgeable than I am. I've never dynode my Gen1 so I do not know what the hp incresase is. The engine revs quicker with a full system and that I could tell immediately. I could see the tach zip up a lot quicker in neutral and I could hear the faster rev as well. It was not a small change. As far as engine performance under load, it seems quicker at midrange and high rpm with the full system and PC5. No loss at lower rpm.

The weight reduction was also immediately noticeable. Mostly a low speed improvement for me. I don't know how much slower I would have to go with the stock exhaust. It's been a long time since I've had it on.

I bought my tsukigi exhaust because it was a steal. On closeout and cost as much as slipons. If I were to buy again and price was not a factor, I'd go with Akrapovich or Brocks. The header is what counts, not really the muffler. I've been told you can go without a muffler and it won't make a bit of dif. Find out what is the strongest Brocks or Akrapovich pipe for the Gen2 and spend the money. Slipons are not cheap either so why not go all the way?. Personally, I would rather just shell out the cash right away and not have to struggle with second guessing the decision later on....then spending more $$ to upgrade and deal with trying to sell the slipons.

If you really want CHEAP and lightweight, get some cool slash cut exhaust tips for a car and have them welded onto the stock header. Sounds good if you like loud and very lightweight, no harm to your performance. Cost you about a hundred bucks, welding included. You might even be able to mod exhaust tips to clamp onto the stock header.

One last point, race bikes have single muffler exhausts. Brocks CT duals were a great system for the 14 but it makes it look more touring sport bike IMHO. The CT meg is a great single and so is the Alien Head. I got used to the look of a single exhaust real fast even though I initially preferred duals. I wouldn't want a dual full system now. The single makes chain maintenance a lot easier and it's lighter. ...and less money than duals. A shorty like the A head or the CT meg will give you better access on the RH side too. Just be careful not to melt your heel on the muffler.
