Suggestions on protecting paint when using the cable to hold 2nd helmet
04/12/11 9:54 PM

Hi,
I am new to the ZX-14. I have had a superhawk for years and have never had any issues with holding a second helmet on the bike before. I used the cable to tie my girlfriends helmet to the bike while i went ot pick her up and i noticed it really wore into the paint. I had to take the buffer and some good wax to remove it. Does anyone have a good suggestion on protecting the paint?

I read this post, but i did not find a great answer

You know those tank stickers they have in clear? Cut out two large coins, piggyback the one clear over the other. This way, you can feel for a second bang through the first layer, save the paint with the second layer. Cut a 3rd layer and now you have whatever layers work... Keeping an eye on the rub.

To remove: Use that glue-be-gone kind of glue decomposing compound that can peel the layer off the paint and not harm the finish, just the glue attack.

bug-guard film that they use on rocker panels and fenders of cars may work to. I'm am planning on trying some on the back fairings and the front lowers behind the front wheel.

This is what I put on the 14 and my wife's GSXR750. they work really great. I have never had anything fall off the bike. Very secure and a good product. I've had them on the bikes for over 2 years.
