well Rome,we have a heartbeat again!IT'S ALIVE,SHE LIVES!it was totally the fuel pump.i really don't know what caused it to fail, but very glad to narrow it down.she purs like a cat,as thou she was never under the knife.the 14 was designed to be a bike that's built to last.if u understand the basic concept of motorcycles,u can just about fiqure-out what's wrong with zx14.my mechanic, brother and me all said the same thing"she's not getting gas, problem solved"!it was worth the $50.00 i spent to get a fuelpump(used on line),instead of going thru the stealership.it's hard to give your bike up for weeks at a time, but this could be a plus too(if it's something major).that's just my opinion thou.enough of that crap, she's back on the road again!i have no regrets!weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

hey Rome, there were no warnings from the fuelpump.no puking, sputtering or bogging.none of the above, but to think back, she started to turnover a lot before cranking up.that could have been a sign.i don't know man,it's always the simplest things that get u.no FI coding popped-up what so ever or blown fuses.the only way u can hear the fuelpump spooling up,is open fuel tank cap and put your ear to it.remember that u will also hear the auto choke spooling up.almost identical sounds!if u turn the key enough times,u will be able to tell which is which.this will not hurt the bike at all, just don't touch the throttle.this will cause the bike to flood out.hopefully,no one else has this problem, but willing to help if it does.

Glad your bike is fixed.
Just wondering if the old trick of priming the fuel pump works on the 14? Over the years a couple of our cars developed weak fuel pumps. I was told to turn the ignition on but stop before actually starting it. Wait about 10 seconds and turn the key off. Repeat this about 3 or 4 times, then try starting it. In both cases the car started right up and kept running. I'm sure results can vary but it can possibly get you home or to the shop.
Any reason this method might not work on the 14?

Also, you mention the noises we hear when starting. You say the fuel pump can't be heard and it's the auto choke that's making the whining sound? Does the choke always, hot or cold, wind up? I can tell no sound difference in hot or cold starts.

yeah, the method that you stated earlier would work only if the fuelpump has life.mine didn't,it just died.luckly,i was in the driveway when she croked.on the second issue, look at your throttlebody on the leftside as u turn the key on.u should see the auto-choke flip back and forth.it never reseats fully down until the bike goes thru its warmup.this is the sound you hear,KaK.some say it's the fuelpump, but mine was dead in the water and still made that sound.i tested the new pump before installing it and did get a zizzing sound, not the mechanical sound.tell me what kinda sound can you get from a electric motor that's submerge in fluids(gas)?WOW,i'm becoming a rocet scientist, but anything to help anyone on the forums.in order to accomplish this test, your farrings must be off on the gear side of the bike.i learn something new about the busa killer almost everytime i ride.she's full of suprises.

Mack, I wasn't doubting you at all. I'm just trying to figure out what all the noises are too.
Thanks for the post.
