Going with a PC V
04/14/11 9:08 AM

Well, ever since I installed the Muzzy Slip Ons I'm having the issue between 1k and 3k rpm with de-acceleration popping and all that sputterin' stuff I have seen discussed all over the place. Above 3k and when I'm on the throttle bike runs perfect. I thought about doing the PAIR fix to help, but ultimately I might as well go PC and tune the damn bike already! I should have just ordered the damn thing with the pipes, thought I could sneak by without it :( Oh well.

All part of the game, kd. Just depends on how much of a hurry you are to go into debt. :)

True Edge, or how much you want to kick yourself for taking a perfectly running brand new bike, slapping on a set of slip-on's, only to cause problems.. At least I love how they sound? :) LOL

The only way to completely get rid of the decel pop is with a "Nuetral" Tre (Ivans TRE-006A, GI Pro, or wire a resistor)... But that is a BIG topic of debate.

I guess I'm ok with it as long as it's not hurting the bike. Like some others have posted, It's really more of an annoyance than anything. Do ya guys think I should wait on the PC V if my only mod is the Muzzy Slip ons?

The only reason to get a PC5 versus a PC3 is if you plan to hook a laptop up to it and download trim updates often. Otherwise, a PC3 is good enough.

I was told this by Brock himself, and the map he sent me with my PC3 has been more than adequate for my uses.

You can get a PC3 dirt cheap too.

I thought about doing the PAIR fix to help, but ultimately I might as well go PC and tune the damn bike already!

Don't expect the PC to do a whole lot more for you. I'm pretty sure most maps are going to go leaner than stock mapping but as long as you have the PAIR in operation, it will still pop. In fact, it will still pop some with the PAIR blocked and a new map. I just installed block off plates and it seems like that may have reduced popping to a bit less than a simple PAIR plug. MAYBE_MAYBE MAYBE----the air is cold now, that may be the real reason the decel pop is reduced. I have not ridden in 4 months. If you are getting popping, you will probably make it less but not get rid of it . I like the sound, anyway.

Rook is right.

The CT-series exhaust system from Brock's Performance come with a simple plug to block the PAIR. It helps a lot, but when the bike is warmed up it will pop anyway.

A Tre will get rid of it, but I haven't found one that doesn't lock my gear indicator in 6th gear, and that just won't do.

I'm glad you said that because I was about to go there! hehe

I wouldn't think that pop would be harmfull on an injected bike except maybe for carbon buildup. On the carbeurated bikes if the pop went the wrong direction you could blow your vacuum diaphragms out which was bad. But if it were that bad it was an obnoxious racket which made everyone look so you knew it wasn't good.
Besides, a little popping coming off the throttle sounds lean and mean! haha

Heh Edge, you are exactly right. I love the way she "burbles" when you are coming off throttle for a second to set up a corner. The occasional pop just reinforces the fact you are riding a 200 HP machine with enough torque to melt the rear tire.

Not a thing wrong with that. :)

You guys ROCKKKK!!!! Thanks for all the suggestions and info. If its not hurting the bike then I can learn to live with a little popping. If I'm not going to gain much at the moment with a PCIII or V with just the Slip-ons then maybe I'll wait till I get some more miles on the bike and spend the $$$ elsewhere. I like the new Muzzy's so much better then stock in terms of sound and weight reduction so they are definitely not coming off.

Why don't mine "pop" at all first with just S/O's ! & now with PCV/Dynoed my mates carby XJR1300 did POP with the "one S/O" but his fuel injected XJR1300 one don't "POP" at all too ! not that I like it not popping as Goodies original XJR1300 used to "bark" like mad !I was also told by kwaka's head Mechanic at the sale time of my ZX14 from 09 on the ECU has the ability to upgrade for the leo-vince S/O's when tuned up to accomadate them, the only thing I do know is with the S/O's before the PCV/Dyno my mates smelt the unburnt fuel & you could see a carbon build up at the end of the S/O's which stopped when she was dynoed

Kidii02, I too started off with the Muzzy slip-ons.(love Em) Then went nuts trying to fix that pop or Stop the back fire that you get on de cell at 3800RPM. I too was thinking buy a power commander get a good map and this would fix my problem. Nope.

As you read above from the guys here, there is No fixing the pop completely with out a TRE006A. I tried all the tricks listed and made over hundred maps, changing one # at a time. It became a obsession. I had read that others were fixing the pop with Map changes and tune block off plates pair systems but I could NEVER do it. This drove me nuts. Rich lean you name it I tried it all. No could do.

Now after all that time and money TRE-006A now sleeps in my bike. All fixed. No pop, No backfire or gas explosions in my new pipes. All is as it should except N0 Gear Display(-)is what shows. The I've had it in and out playing. In is better for me. I hope this helps in some way.

Try it. What's 50 bucks if you look at what we spend on these toys. If you don't like it unplug it ?

Also there are different TREs so pick the wright one.

I still sometime think today if it were not for that Back Fire or Pop May bike would have stayed with Muzzy Pipes and flies out with the TRE as it's Hot set up. Learned lots along the way

Thanks a bunch Romans, always great to hear feedback from all of you guys on this stuff. Funny enough, I believe it was a pic of your 14 that finally sold me on the Muzzy's. I prefer the look of them alot. I know that the Brock's Dual CT might be my next adventure, but for now I love the Muzzy's. Got mine for $529 from Starcycle USA.

I'll keep the TRE in mind. I guess it all depends if I can live with the popping or not. I like having the Gear indicator working though. Good points all around.

What did brocks say "Quote" IT is highly recommended that a "Power Commander ( or similar mapping system) & appropiate map be installed with "ANY" non-stock exhaust system including " BOTH " FULL & SLIP-ON system

Got the PC-V installed on Friday night, put the bike back together and honestly, Jamie from Fuel Moto nailed the map!!! My idle sputtering is gone, throttle response is very smooth throughout the rpm range, the bike just keeps pulling!! I love what the PC-V did for my bike even though I just have slip-ons and a K&N for mods. Now its running the way it should. I was very skeptical and it took me a long time to finally jump on board but I'm really glad I did.

Thanks again everyone for all your suggestions and thoughts.

Is Fuel Moto a local shop of yours?

Hey Edge, nope they are an online place I had read good things about when it comes to PC's and maps.

http://fuelmotousa.com/

I dealt with Keith over email and Jamie did my map and upload. Fast turn around and I am enjoying the new map for sure. I don't really have a local Dyno shop so I figured I'd give them a try.

Thanks for this knowledge. I picked up a 08 MMS with 921 miles while home on R and R. The bike has a 4/1 Brock "Hindle" and since it was about 85 degrees out, it popped slightly on decel and the back of the exhaust is a little black, not bad. The bike runs like the wind, pulls great and I put 600 on it before I had to come back here. I honestly don't know what PC is on there, I believe it is a III due to the year of the bike, all I had time for was a routine check and to install a battery tender. So the popping is normal, thank you, that's a load off my mind and look forward to the Texas spring when I get home, take 30 days and clean my head out riding.

NE Wisconsin.......Mountain Man country. Bib overalls/no shirt/underpants, long beards, at least 2 rifles (uncased and probably loaded) on the rack in the back window of the pickup where their dog rides shotgun, run around from one bar to the next lighting halfsticks of TNT for fun.
