GPS mount ... show yours?
08/19/14 1:21 PM

I'd just like to request that y'all either describe or post of pic of your GPS mount ... if it's not too much trouble.

I know some use one of the handlebar bolts and some use the head bolt hole.

Thanks for whatever ya got!

Ram Mounts for the Win! They make mounts for pretty much anything to mount anywhere.

Step 2

Step 3

MacGyver'd a $6 waterproof case from ebay for my TomTom

Oh! And meantime while I was posting Dave905 posted his pics! Thanks Dave ... seems like everything points to the Ram mount ... just wasn't sure if it's better to mount in the head bolt's center hole or to one of the handlebar bolts. I guess it's just personal preference.

Mine is setup exactly like Daves. Worked perfect for my tours. Right in sight with all the gauges.

ebony14r, Is that ram mount a direct replacement for the handlebar mount or did you fab something up? That looks like exactly what I need.

wfozx14, it's a 8mm handlebar bolt mount with a 3" arm, all from Ram-Mount. It puts the GPS right in front of you, lots of flexibility!

I got a home made idea from a member on another forum, and here's my variation on it ... it's basically just a threaded rod secured inside the stem / head bolt hole with lock nuts and with a plate on top.

I added a rubber piece called a "cord protector" to both the bottom and top of the head bolt hole, to keep the threaded rod centered and provide some additional shock absorption ... just happened to find them at my local hardware store ... had never heard of them before ... $2.40 each, but since they're switching from "Do It Best" brand hardware to Ace brand, everything is 75% off - woo. The outside diameter of the cord protector's shaft is 5/8", the same size as my '13 ZX-14R's head bolt hole. This rubber piece does allow the mount to rotate a little with some pressure, but it doesn't move unless I move it.

My pic actually shows 1/4" threaded rod and 1/4" lock nuts ... but I switched both to 5/16" because it fit the cord protector hole better, and the 5/16" tapped hole in the aluminum bracket seemed to hold the 5/16" rod better than the 1/4" tapped hole was holding the 1/4" rod. I used 1/4" fender washers (drilled out to 5/16") because the outside diameter of the washer fit the ZX's head bolt better, i.e. wasn't too big.
