Don Guhl - reflash
05/17/12 5:46 PM

Don Guhl is going to be at the COG 2012 National in Arkansas in June, and will do re-flashes for Concours 14s.

Guess I don't have to schedule a 1 hour ride to PA to see him now.

He's bringing his dyno trailer too.

Guhl Motors is a sponsor of the rally.

Don is a great guy he helped me huge! When another company said they could reflash my 14 ECU. They wound up screwing up my ECU and wanted me to ship it back a third time over night ( so I wouldn't lose any ride time) but I place a call to Don and I can tell you he's the only guy to use for a reflash.....

I have heard many good things about Guhl motors and the fact that Brock is working with him says allot. My local Dyno center recently became a ECUnleashed tuning center. He made me a deal I couldn't refuse... They read my ECU, made a few test files & Dyno pulls. Now my ECU has a custom tune, speed limiter removed, TRE in all gears removed, KTRC stays in last position I left it in, and a few other things that I don't recall this moment... Free

I'm getting mine done the second afternoon of the rally in Arkansas. With the stock muffler on. And it will still make a world of (positive) difference.

Guy's I had Don reflash mine and set it the way I wanted and now it goes to the 11,700RPM limit I asked for. The last guy Dynotronics had me send it back twice to raise the limiter and after the second time the only thing that went to 11,700 was the needle on the tac! The dyno said differently for sure. 11,100. Dynotronics said it was the dyno and the operator was taking the signal off the wrong spot! He was taking it right off the ECU output wire but they swore you had to back feed the spark plug. So amazingly enough after Don reflashed it on the same dyno with the guy dyno operator it went to the full 11,700. Don said they did not turn on all the right things to make it go that high.....

Well this past Thursday to Sunday I did a 2,000 mile trip to the Tail of the Dragon and all through NC, TN and GA with no issues and she ran great the entire time!!! THANK YOU DON!!!!!
CHEERS!!!

PS. O yeah in 2,000 miles I only got two tickets!

Nice! So how does it work? Should I get a custom tune, then send the ECU to Don, reinstall it and get another custom Tune?

PS. O yeah in 2,000 miles I only got two tickets

Not bad lol

Don seems to be the best option but I have no patience when it comes to my bike. Would like to get it done in one day.
I'm thinking about trying these guys, the only thing is they deal mostly with Apes:
AF1 Racing
They are ECU unleashed but one guy I talked to over there told me they may have to send the ECU if they can't get it done there

Drag trust me I went through all sorts of bull shit with this thing and at one point had wished I never touched it. Use Don too many people say all sorts of crap and can't deliver. Not to mention if they can't get it done they send it out....the first guy I have e mails another company in Italy and then they send him the flash and he down loads it. Screw that Don does his own work and truly knows what's going on along with being totally up front. You may not need the custom tune after you have it flashed but I like everything the very best it can be so I went with the custom tune afterwards and am very happy with it.....There is an old saying by the best cry only once.

Don reflashed my ECU but only to raise the RPM limit to an actual 11,100. Mine had already been tuned by HTP Performance so I didn't want to mess with my map. Power was still climbing at the stock actual rev limit of 10,600 so the 500 RPM increase allowed me to reach peak power of the engine. I'm going to have him raise it 200 more RPM so there will be a tad more room between my shift point and the rev limiter. Highly recommend Don to anyone considering having their ECU reflashed.

Hey Priv, how much power did that re-flash add to your C14 down low?

I wouldn't want anyone messing with my ECU that didn't know what they are doing. Kind of like heart surgery isn't it?

Reread please Auron. I'm having mine done at the 2012 COG National in Arkansas, and don't leave until the 7th of June. So I have no idea but from the experiences of many other C14 riders who posted, and from the instrumented dyno runs Don Guhl did with the COG Tech guy showing all the important information.

So I expect to get much quicker power delivery down low, and more sustained passing power, while not giving up any traction control or etc.

As for heart surgery, Don Guhl is the best, hands down, and we in COG trust him 100%.

When I had my 2011 Connie, Fred H. put my V&H CS1 slip on on his bike and used his auto tuner to make a map for Don G to have another flash option. Actually I purchased an additional one and had it shipped straight to Fred. He ran it for a while with his Guhl flashed ECU and literaly reported that the slip on with the Guhl flash was a recipe for lots of tickets and decided to stay with his stock can. Don did my flash and I gotta tell you it really woke the C14 up. It became a VERY fast with great low end response. Also great service from Don. He even called me after he shipped it to me just to ask what i thought and if I was satisfied. Great guy...great flash. COG also = outstanding owners group and support!

Drag said... "raise my redline a little"....I can tell ya...best to raise it 500...not 200...Mine hits that raised 200 REALLY fast.HOWEVER...I don't try to hit that EVER...it happens.

Jagman, thats cool. I remember when Fred was working with Don to develop the C14 reflash. We thought Don would come out, but not enough of us signed up to have it done at the 2012 National so I will drive over to Guhl later this summer and get it done.

I'm leaving the stock exhaust on, I love the quietness and with the Cal Sci Large on and all the way up, my XM stereo in my helmet is like a concert hall. I used to have to blast my ear buds just to hear the music on my ZX14. Now with the Shuberth C3 and real in-helmet speakers, it sounds great.
