This is Mathound territory and to plug in the other number, watt number are we going to use? KW/Boiler/BTU/W?
This is going to be way off, but it's either 3.5hp or 16 hp we have 50 as weight and body weight is 75% water they say; so 8.34 is the weight of water is one gallon of it.

So if gas is somewhere around 7lbs. and change, that's 5.8 gallons in the tank, where is the pound sitting on that variable?

A ported head just broke out of the Brock philosophy. Fastest stock bike is a benchmark. Keeping the cover on keeps you in the cheap seats and keeps you playing on the outside. Lots of unhidden moves you don't think about if you are looking for a faster flow.

Thanks Kofla. He checked the other two, fastoys is on the list for this morning. Otherwise he is SOL, and has to get to another town. Purebliss cycles, and motorcycle bone yard are on the list.

Due to excessive ambient temp, the chain stretched 3/4" past the service now length and hopped off the sprocket. The fear is running it slow on that chain to head east, and breaking down 400 miles further in the middle of nowhere.

Bring the chain, they might sell in bulk on a spool. 530 is the pitch. 116L, but remember the chain on the R is 118L plus stretch.

Nominal Dimensions Are: 520 = 1/4" - (0.25") - [6.35mm] 530 = 3/8" - (0.38") - [9.52mm] *Both chains are standard #50 pitch of 5/8" - (0.625") ...

Net search so this is your conversion you speak with the heavy truck/tractor/other big4-HD bike shops besides a kawi/hardware stores.

Reverse the rear sprocket. Both [the counter too] would be better, but is this a thrown chain or a 'chain off the hook's of the sprocket? If this is a chain that has an easy master to unclip, you flip the chain over to the other side = I'll finish that endurance race no parts is parts is the snail race home.

500 miles in, 103* + outside. Sticky chain feeling in the pegs, then bag, Thrown chain, walked up the back tire. No hookage/ worn sprocket. He said he double checked and lubed everything before he left. O rings and stuff missing, now.

Lube failed to lubricate, hub? or does the cblast flash make so much powah it shreds chains ?

That sounds like improper lube and/or side loading the chain due to axle adjustment misalignment.

This thread is just... Wow.

Anyway, I just spoke to Sebastian and he wanted me to update you guys. He threw his chain earlier, but was able to man up and get it remounted on the roadside. No local shops have what he needs, though, so he's in a bit of a pickle. If you boys have ever been to that area, you know what it's like over there. Service and parts are very few and far between, if they exist at all.

He is currently stopped near Dayton, MT right now, about 20 minutes from my cabin over there. Given the choice of riding further east with no guarantee of a chain, or back home to reliable dealers, he's decided to nurse his bike back to St. Regis and hop on I-90, then make his way to Spokane, WA for a chain and sprocket.

I think his aspirations for Bear Mountain have been sufficiently stymied.

I'm going to paraphrase and assume a lot of the work was done on C's 14: 'We used my bike for all these dyno pulls and I did not add that wearing out of 'hours' playing with mapping and the rest of the time spent trying to tear the smile off my face.'

Well something is definitely amiss and it's not the ambient temperature rise.

The coefficient of thermal expansion for steel won't allow for .75" creep.

Lets go thru this shall we?

1. Original chain not lubed every 300-bad boy if past 400 miles each lube of that chain.
2. Original chain was being used as the map was being developed and no one ever lubed the chain on the dyno running all those runs.
3. Original chain lube all this time was double you don't tell me forty.

I don't know if he re lubed it being 500 miles into the trip. It was "good" before he left. So, the only three things that changed, are ambient temp, weight and mileage really. I'm guessing the ambient temp, and fast speed helped the lube leave the chain prematurely, then friction did it in. OR. Did he compensate for the added weight of his luggage, which took up slack adding more stress? Maybe a few big bumps with little slack and it pulled itself apart. Maybe a combination of both? The chain could possibly have been towards the badder side of "good" and just took a shit from the above conditions.

I'm sure he'll be on to clarify. Other than the added weight, I can't imagine he fucked up setting it up. Stupider shit has happened to me, like not torqueing the rear caliper bolts.

Hey y'all, got home safe about 0345 in the morning. Chain was simply too worn and let me down. 20,000 miles on a stock chain with all the track stuff and dyno etc. always maintained it to a high standard but should have obviously replaced before the trip. When I mounted new tires for the trip, the shop tech that balanced them took a look at the chain and sprockets because I wanted a second opinion. Even he said it was close to the end of its service life but should be fine. No one anticipated heat like this.

All came out okay in the end, got some solid help from a gentleman at the Harley dealer in Spokane! Good people there! And have an EK ZZZ comin and set of vortex sprockets! WOT! Thank y'all TrailBoss and Grn14 so much for the help and support while I was out in the middle of nowhere! Awesome to meet and hang if even for only a short time Grn! Thank you for your hospitality! I will write a better thread with a couple of cool pics and such when I am sufficiently rehydrated.

Thank all of you guys for the texts and phone calls and support!! Made a huge difference when the frustration set in roadside in 100+ heat. It certainly motivated me.

'Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all'

I made the best effort possible to keep heading east, but common sense after spending so much time performing unanticipated wrenching to just get her rideable, would have meant a massive fast 2000+ mile push in same temps or hotter across quite a lot of dead cell phone service space. If I had had the foresight and time to setup a new chain and sprockets prior to, of course this would have been avoided. But hindsight is always 20/12. I have learnt the actual stress and service limit of said stock chain. This is a plus. ;)
I regret not makin it to Bear this year. But I am glad to be out of that heatwave.

Lets recap this shall we?

Chain was simply too worn and let me down. 20,000 miles on a stock chain with all the track stuff and dyno etc. always maintained it to...

4. Trackday hours. Oh and, 20k did pretty well for being well maintained right up until...

When I mounted new tires... the shop tech that balanced them...

... Did not time the chain or any other time was to time the same wear pattern from tooth to link, correct?

Even he said it was close to the end of its service life but should be fine. No one anticipated heat like this.

Did he lube the chain? Heat? Bikes are racing/trackdaying in the heat around here and it is heat as a wear yes, but for this failure, we have to look back to what did it in and that is...
5... DID eye EK the DAIDO data right down to the last link that did that puppy in was a new wear pattern ridding up on that tooth.

Signed,

But Nooooooooooooooooooooo

I wasn't laying responsibility anywhere but with me. The roads in Montana are amazing. Huge fast sweepers with little or no limit. Divided 4-lanes that stretch for miles empty and beconing. I burnt that sucker down. How could I not. I was watching her at every stop and lubing her lightly. She did her job as long as she could.
