Exhaust decisions
05/03/10 9:05 AM

Been looking at exhaust systems for the 09. I have it narrowed down to 3 choices:

Akrapovic Racing w/Carbon can
Orient Express full Titanium low mount
Brocks Generation 3 w/ Carbon can

I will be adding a PC-5 as well. I want something that makes decent power but not too loud.

Are folks yanking the flies on the 08-09 models? Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

John

Akra dude the rest are junk! The only thing with Brocks is his maps, and you dont need one because you will be making your own.

Its junk ! Akra is on my GSXR 1000 its the evo with carbon fiber can. I went all out on the gixer, when I walk out in the garage I have my choice and seem to throw my leg over the gsxr alot more than than the 14 I seem to have more fun on the gixer. Is that a bad thing to say on this forum? Scott I like your exhaust the brocks duel exhaust is a perfect fit on the 14 and sounds very nice but take my word for it the Akra evo exhaust is the bad ass shit and you pay for it belive me. Brock doenst make any thing but maps Hindle makes his stuff for him and he puts his name on it. That was one of reasons why I didn't buy from him and I knew i wouldn't need his map support because I was going to get a custom map made any way. I took a real close look at all the pictures and videos of your bike, its very nice I can tell you have put some time into it. Loose the stickers dude it takes away from the bike.

buck, I know what your saying bout riding the liter bike I still ride my 9 more than the 14 I think its just the fun factor. As for the Akro pipes I went back and forth between Brocks and Akro right up ti the time of purchase and if the evo was the exhaust they show in their add i'd of bought it(it shows 2 cans coming out under the tail section) I still havent figured out why they show the exhaust that way.

For me it came down to 2 things, 1 I like the dual pipes look on the 14. 2 you gain 20+ hp right out of the box over stock (without spending $400 to have the new pipe tuned) Brocks has their own forum where brock himself will answer any question or concerns you may have plus free lifetime map support for any mod you may want to make in the future. So for me living 4 hrs away from the nearest dyno my choice was pretty easy.

As for those factory stickers(I'm assuming your talking about the swingarm)I looked at those but they seemed to be on there pretty good what you use to get yours off?

Scott, What you are seeing on my 14 is the micron titanium full race serpent system, you dont see many of them especially now that they have gone out of business. I think you did good, titanium cans aint cheep and you got two of them and with the support brock gives its realy not a bad deal. I have no idea how much hp I actualy gained with a full system but the dyno slip said 178 witch is more than I will ever use! Shit I got pulled over twice this week for about 90 they let me off with a warning both times. You were doing 160 on that road man you are nuts, my face would have been on the evening news here for that kinda shit! I was just messing with ya about the stickers you know when you put up pictures on the net theres always some bozo that has to say something.

Brocks makes a nice system, but its way to pricy for us average folks, I went with the muzzy m14 oval stainless full system, sounds awesome and big weight savings!

Buck20 - I think my map could be "tweaked" a bit better, but wow is it responsive. The sound is incredible, all of the sound clips on youtube do not do the pipe any justice. Great quality, extremely light. The first thing I noticed when backing out of the garage and down the driveway was the weight loss. I'm a very happy with this purchase.

What I have found is that the bike just wont run perfect untill you get that air/fuel set up on the dyno. Lets face it all zx14's are fast what I'm talking is smooth super power and a perfect idle. Mine is a freeway monster and yours will be also once you get that map set up for your bike.

Got a question for you guys....

Who else besides Brocks Performance actually races their own pipes and mods on a ZX14?

Muzzy used to race but abandoned Kawasaki for Yamaha and Suzuki.

So Brocks takes several bikes they own, that they piped and tuned, that they dyno-ed, and they drag race them for real, for national points. Year after year.

Who else does that?

And who you going to believe, a pretty girl in a magazine advertisement telling you X pipes are the best, or someone who gains national points and records actually running the hardware on the track?

Ya but they tune each one on the dyno they dont run down loaded maps in their race bikes, none of that shit is a secret each bike is a little different. Its guys like Jefo that rapes people with just his lap top is what cracks me up!

176 HP, but that was not what I was worried about it was the air fuel ratio. The down loaded map that was I was using was super rich. I'm sure yours will have more HP than mine they pumped up the 08's. I think the 08 will end up being the one to have. We will call it the widow maker!

I dont know, Im thinking your running a high quality map from a tuner that knows what hes doing and I'm sure the bike runs great, why risk having some clown wast your bike or over heat it on the dyno. Im gona say table dances would be the way to go when you get there!
