Anything More???
11/17/14 3:08 AM

Hi Guys,

I think my project is pretty much close to being completed.
Please see under pic for details on all mods done.
I have an APE cam chain tensioner coming and will probably soon order an evo shift star.

Apart from that, is there any other worthwhile suggestions for additives I should be considering or anything I've missed?
I know there are a million upgrades for the Gen1 14 but I mean anything I simply should have that I don't...

I'm sure it's crossed your mind already but how about BST rims?

45T rear sprocket?...now that yu made the 300 Club?

THere's a hundred things you can take off. That's what I'd focus on.

Regarding the suggestions of suspension, I recently was away with a group that included an ex pro racer. Fastest guy I have ever ridden with. He was scary fast. I have never seen a someone disappear into the distance on twisters so quickly.
He was on an R1 and had ridden Bussa's but never a 14 so we swapped bikes for a while. He said the ZX-14 was one of the best motorbikes he had ever ridden and said my bike was set up beautifully except maybe a 3mm shim under the rear suspension.
And I could see he knew exactly what he was talking about...
Plus he had echoed what another experienced rider told me about how good my setup was.
So at this stage for my riding style and requirements I'm happy to stay with the current stock suspension and where it's at.
But really appreciate the feedback...

Weight reduction ideas:

ZX10 wheels save almost 10 pounds
Shorai Lithium Ion battery saves 10 pounds
4 into 1 exhaust system will save another 10+ pounds

4-2-1 should save more than 10 lbs.

Stock exhaust: 39lbs, 3oz

Aftermarket full system: ~15 lbs (brock claims 8.25 lbs but that must be just a muffler?)

--I guess if you go with a Yoshi header and 1 muffler, that would be about -10 off of the current weight.

The OP already has Yosh slip-ons. If he went to a full 4:2:1 system, he would save an additional 10+ pounds.

For comparison, I have an Akrapovic EVO exhaust, full titanium with carbon fiber cannister and it weighs 8 pounds.

I`m thinking about Racetech fork springs. Any benefit over stock?

@ Race springs: are hard and are better for fast moving work. Stock springs are more plush and you can crank in the spring tension if you want hard. These are not like the old long springs where you could get a progressive wind out of one end and begins to harden up the more you compress. Unless you rather try a set, know the difference, Grn could probably give a take on the suspension change or feel.

@ 3mm: at the rear. It goes like this. Extend your arm out, bend your elbow to a 90 degree, hold a pen/pencil straight down in a vertical position. Exaggerate the elbow and elevate it up. Watch the pen point as your tire print or where it is positioned before you install the 3mm shim.

This brings the tire patch pulled in closer to the frame [think] and a faster steer is the change. Pull the shim out and the front patch sticks out farther like a chopper with extended forks and that's more a slower steer but more stable, less twitchy than being closer in.

Regarding Racetech springs, when I had my ZRX1100 I had 1.1kg Racetech springs put in during a fork seal service and it really made a huge difference with my 250 pound fatass onboard.

@Hub, is there a fundamental difference between the stock front springs found in a 2011 ZX14 compared to a 2001 ZRX?

Just ordered a couple more small things.
Mirror extenders and a Powerbronze rear hugger...

The mirror extenders are practical for riding in traffic.

I always liked huggers but I wish someone would make one without a chain guard built in. There was one like that for a while but they stopped making them after a year. I'm going to attempt to make one like that from fiberglass this winter (if garage temp permits).

Where did you get the mirror extenders, if you don't mine sayin'? How much wider are they?

Stock mirrors are the best I've ever had on a bike, but a little bit more couldn't hurt.

RE: Anything more???

Yeah I agree that the stock mirrors are good.
Especially vibration wise.
But I do see my arms and elbows in the mirrors when looking rearwards so these extenders seem like a good idea because 95% of my riding is done on public roads.
I haven't got them yet but will advise when received and installed.
You can get these on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mirror-Extenders-Spacers-2006-2013-Kawasaki-Ninja-ZX14-ZZR1400-ZX-14-ZZR-1400-/261668298607?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item3ceca55f6f

Plus there is a quick clip on YouTube showing these being installed onto a 14.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MUu82-6il6g

(sorry about no actual links being provided but I haven't worked that one out yet)

With the rear hugger, I did a fair bit of looking around at the options and thought the Powerbronze was the one for me.
I like the shape, And unlike Rook like the fact it has a chain guard ;)
Plus I like the look of the built in vent though some would disagree with that.
I'm sure it's pretty pointless practicality wise.
I would have liked a matt or satin black color but as they don't do these I ordered a carbon one and will paint if I don't end up liking the look.
It will be interesting to see what its like close up when it arrives...

Nice! What a simple design! I was picturing all-new mirrors. And plastic will add very little weight.

Looking forward to your review on them

Thanks!
