Flies out
02/12/16 11:55 AM

I'm sorry in advance because I'm sure this has been discussed multiple times in detail somewhere on the forum but....

Does removing the flies have any adverse effects on the bike?
And
Is a power commander necessary after sed flies are removed?

Thanks for the input guys, yall have yet to lead me astray.

It's a good performance boost for Gen 1 bikes. The later ones have an earlier opening written into the ECU so no real benefit there. I have heard that a Power commander is not necessary for flies out. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

06-07 will benefit from flies out I was told. The 06-07s were restricted all the way to 6000 rpm then WHAM!! 08-11 will feel exactly the same flies in or out unless the AFR is adjusted as well. If you flash or tune for flies out on an 08-11, that will smooth out the lower end of the power band (you must feel the little surge around 3000 rpm--that's the flies opening). I'm sure tuning for flies out on a 06-07 also improves flies out performance but those bikes were so restricted, removing alone was a noticeable improvement. Not sure how/if it effects top speed. Check with Brock, I believe he felt the Gen1 14 was a couple mph faster with flies in but no way is it smoother down low.

Flies out/Auto tune or custom Dyno tune. Flash might not help unless you flash custom AFRs for your flies out...a regular flash without custom tune is for some other engine, not yours. Tried a flies out map for my PC5 that was tuned on the same year 14 as mine with exact same exhaust and the throttle response at 3000 was hardly any better than stock mapping. I'd say pull 'em but plan on tuning to get any benefit on your 08-11.

Guess it depends on year model. When I spoke to Ivan he recommended leaving them in.

I pulled the flies on my 2012 14R and had an increase in low to midrange power. If you're going to flash your ecu, don't bother... but if you're not, I recommend it.

I have my flies out in my 2012 14R with a flash. Didn't see any gain at the track but it did make it easier to stage.
