a 200 section tire, will cost you more and slow down the steering marginally, question is, why do you want to do it??

I have a 200/50 17 on my 2012. It fits fine and if there is any difference in cornering it is very small. It feels the same to me.

The 190 and 200 tires depending on manufacturer are only millimeters in difference

Type of tire makes a big difference too. My Shinko Stealth is WAY flatter, and looks wider than the Angel I took off of it.

This is a normal 190/50 Shinko Stealth on my Turbo bike.

when I replaced my tires I may get a bigger one on the back.

I think a bigger tire makes the bike look a lot better and cooler; not concerned about diminished handling . I can corner on the BMW. Lol

What is the biggest tire that will fit the stock bike? will a 240 fit?

Our bikes come with a 190. I use the Shinko 190 and never have traction issues. A 200 will simply weigh more and have zero benefits.

As I hoped plenty of ideas, my big cruiser I went up to a 200 on the rear rides better, but it almost weighs a 1000lbs so this is a whole different deal..

I just replaced my tires. Stayed stock width, but went taller to a 55 profile. Angel GT.

that is what was recommended to me. 190/55. When I first did it I noticed a big change in the turn in and sitting on the bike, I even felt the extra ~10mm of height you get with a 55 over a 50. The 55 looks more eliptical when mounted. The 50 looks closer to a circle.

There are differences even among 190/55 tires. Some will be a little higher than others. Depends on the exact model of tire.

Im running 190/55 now but i have a 200/50 waiting to go on when my Pr3's get bald. I also run a 6.25 rear rim which will help with the extra width

Would the quarter inch extra rim width give you the same tire profile on a 200/50 as the stock rim width and the stock 190/50? Does that all fit on the stock swingarm without any other adjustments? If you go with a 55 series profile tire doesnt that jack the rear up about a half inch?

I average about 8-12k miles a year on my bikes ,06zx10 track/street 50k miles on it and 2012 zx14 with 20k miles on it. so ive tried alot of differnt tires. I run a 200/60r17 Pirelli race slick on my zx10 for track days. It raises the bike in the back about transitions. Loads more tread for side grip while cornering. Roughfly about an inch more tread on the side while cornering. Not sure how that will help on the street unless the tire you chose has a flatter profile like the pilot road 3's or the shinkos. Typically most performance tires have a more cloned or some what pointed tire design for faster transition to help with cornering and going from side to side. The touring or drag race type tires usually have a flatter profile for better strait line grip.
If your a corner carver you want a tire like the Bridgestone S20, Michelin Pr3's, ect. But you give up tire life for grip. Center will wear out before sides if you do alot of strait road riding.
If you do more touring then you want a tire with a flatter tire profile..pilot road 3, continual sport attack, ect.
If you do mainly drag racing or just don't hit twisty roads much the shinkos are great. Just have to go with the type of tire for the riding you do.
One other thing to look at with tires. Even though tires have the same size dimensions say 190/55r17 the tire profile will be diffrent from each manufacture. Sone have sharper profiles for bettter corner and side to side transitions and some with a flatter profile better for strait line riding.

Hey Blkcasper, that was a good little write up. I went with a 200 Avon on my 1300 cruiser and thought it looked pretty good.Several over on another forum said going from stock 180 to 200 wouldn't make a difference in width because the rim would have it pinched but it did make a noticable difference. Not wanting a huge tire on back of my 14 but a little bigger might be something I'm interested in to help with the wide tail as far as looks and if it doesn't take much,if any away from handling.Does anyone have a photo of their 14r from the back with stock rim and 200 tire?

Nice chart dericrey,

I didn't think the circumference was that much difference from the 50 to the 55 profile, 2.35 inches !

Better check my hugger for clearance if I go with the 55 LOL !

Also, the 55 does less revolutions per mile, so it should wear longer ? Ha ha Yea right !

You shouldn't have any fitment or rubbing issues unless you have a rear hugger. My zx10 came with a 190/55/17. It does feel so much more stable while leaned over through cornering. And tons more side grip with a 200/60/17. The zx10 and zx14 tires are the same size..it will raise the rear end up..so suspension would hqve to be adjusted

Thanks casper, I do have a rear hugger, if I do get a 55, I can get the suspension set for cheap/good or do it myself ....

If you go with the 190/55/17 you should be fine. If you go with the 200/60/17 you'll have to remove Hugger and redo suspension.
