Being that no one in here seems to be doing much racing, I thought I'd share a little and run a new post.
Last night I made my every other week pilgrimage to the drag strip to have some fun. I got lucky with the weather for once and the rain stayed a few miles away from the track. Looking at the local radar on the iphone seems to be a new habit for me in the afternoons now.
The air was warm and humid but there was a slight tail wind at the track and I was pretty excited about seeing the flags flying in the direction that they were. I though when I saw that I'd have an advantage for sure. It didn't seem to help.
I ran a bunch of times and I was hitting the low low 10's with good MPH, but nothing new with the ET's. 10.05, 10.07, 10.02, 10.00....... then everyone had to wait for the track to be swept and VHT applied. 45 min' later the bikes were being called for our turn. There were only 4 other bikes racing last night besides me and they were all Harleys. The H/D's were staging and going and I was getting ready to go through the burnout box when some asshat in a ZO6 Vette came out of nowhere, stagged, and went down the track. The starter at the tree didn't want to make him reverse back out and hold up people so they just let him go.
I was pissed and I think I took it out on the bike. I launched hard and leaned as far forward as I thought I could so that I might be able to use a bit more of first gear. It worked !
I ran the following on that pass.
R/T .191
60' 1.71
330' 4.35
1/8 6.46 @ 116.48
1000' 8.28
1/4 9.83 @ 145.52
I was really suprised that I was able to "pull that one out of my ass" so to speak. I wasn't able to duplicate it but I also ran a 9.99, 9.94 and a couple more near flat 10's.
Earlier in the night, I had a few car driver walk up to me and confessed that they thought I was nuts. Well, they said that after watching a couple of my passes where the bike was again on 1 wheel for all of second gear. Those are fun, but not as fast. My 10.05 pass was all on 1 wheel in second gear.
I need to change back to the 17t front sprocket now. I'm a hair away from the rev limiter in 4th gear at the traps as I am now.
I'll try again in 2 weeks with slightly different gearing.
