Romans Flashes Me From the Other Side of the Earth
08/21/13 10:59 PM

I know what you're thinking- 'Damn- that's pretty impressive'- I have to agree.

No, this wasn't some sort of sordid webcam incident...

I live over in Thailand and I really didn't want to send my ECU overseas as the postal system is unreliable here, and I'd probably get hit with import tax when it was sent back- I ordered the Woolich ZX-14R tuning harness and .bin files for my 2013, and then went looking for someone to help me out as there really isn't anyone local who could do it- Romans was recommended, and I contacted him.

He ended up building me a map (sorry, I've agreed to keep it confidential so please don't ask- he is entitled to have his intellectual property respected ) that transformed my 14R, and I was able to upload it in my garage- very, very cool stuff indeed. I'm 15 hours ride from the nearest dyno, but I can tell by the smoothness (not a hiccup from idle on up- my deceleration pop is also all but gone) combined with the (even more) brutal acceleration that I'm set up very well indeed (and I have no doubt Romans will help me out if I need to make any future changes).

The fact the guy kept in frequent contact with me after the ECU flash was done (and was very anxious to hear my impression on it) really tells me a lot about him- it's nice to deal with someone who really cares about getting it right (I'd say the same thing about Justin at Woolich).

In a nutshell, I'm very happy with how things worked out, and I definitely recommend Romans if you need some help getting your ECU sorted with great attention to your individual needs.

Well, I'm all about open source, so there is nothing to hide are the basic clicks. Other than cutting/pasting a few cells, that's where the dyno work comes in. Other than just toggling the 5-6, the FULL locker, the rev limiter, the rev extender, enter the ign map, toggle the [I forget] but either way, no harm, no foul [of plugs].

... he is entitled to have his intellectual property respected

I never did understand that line? It's like saying, I didn't invent ice, but I can sure freeze this piece of meat this way, me standing on the north pole, as I drop the meat right here is the the click on this spot.

Snow the flake it's going to be different, but it still maths within that black box, not Ivan, or the rest of those flashers, look, you keep listing the flashers, they too had nothing to do with FI since day one. Maybe Delphi, M/M, Seim, Bosch is more like it having parts to put it all together so it is now a working fuel system? No, I don't see property.

You mean the common sense intellect to figure out you both sitting around with a box with blocks of all different sizes and shapes, you struggle with that intellectually? What did they change about those blocks to begin wit... Enough withisit.

The term itself

Free Software Foundation founder Richard Stallman argues that, although the term intellectual property is in wide use, it should be rejected altogether, because it "systematically distorts and confuses these issues, and its use was and is promoted by those who gain from this confusion." He claims that the term "operates as a catch-all to lump together disparate laws [which] originated separately, evolved differently, cover different activities, have different rules, and raise different public policy issues" and that it creates a "bias" by confusing these monopolies with ownership of limited physical things, likening them to "property rights".[50] Stallman advocates referring to copyrights, patents and trademarks in the singular and warns against abstracting disparate laws into a collective term. Similarly, Boldrin and Levine prefer to use the term "intellectual monopoly" as a more appropriate and clear definition of the concept.[51]

Well, good for you.

How about this- when someone asks that you keep something in confidence, and you agree to do so, you keep your word.

Hopefully that's something you don't have to struggle with intellectually (especially without having to resort to checking Wikipedia first).

gob, I looked at it as a legal point. I'm no lawyer, but seems I'm not alone was the quote.
dar, it would take years at a dyno before I could hang a sign out. I understand the concept of Joe-A, don't forget, I'm a Joe-A when it comes to this, so I have to reverse the engineering for now. That means figure this badboy out?

And quit giving me compliments like Old and Dirty is the bass turd that eye yam.

Yes, but your quote came from the person who founded an organization dedicated to (among other things) the elimination of (and certainly not the respect of) copyrights for software- it's hardly unbiased, and, in fact, is very self-serving.

In any case, as I said, I respect Rick's intellectual property rights (no doubt Richard Stallman would not, but that doesn't make him correct in his stance).

Yep, issues we have lol,,,

Guys when i first got into this I was in shock as to what this big girl could really do. As most of you know we spend oooooodddddllllles of money on these bikes and in most cases we can't really feel a massive change. This Flash is different promise.

ie Just today I had a member call me and said he could not feel the difference in the new full pipe that he had just installed. So begs the question can any of us feel it ? 10 to 12 hp up top is not much in grand scheme of things when you can now study and build hp in the Entire RPM scale. So now we move forward.

Kawi has given us a great motor to work with and Woolich has let us play inside the ECU. This allows us to build a reflection inside the ECU of how the map builder thinks the bike should run.

To date I have made 27 different flashes for the 14 R. But only two that I am in love with,,, Just adding more to the #'s is Not what this bike wants as most will learn. She gets lumpy for the lack of a better term. Build of the perfect map is not Easy and takes a great deal of time. And even then it's only your opinion it's perfect.

A bit of info.

When this started off I was just tuning for myself(my obsession)when a few good members wanted to try the flash for themselves after hearing me talk about how this bike is such a wow afterwards. Then they were kind enough to contribute in helping with the cost. And, now here we are.

Personally I did not believe each one of these guys needed to go and spend the huge doe for the flash and then go and buy the Power commander with fuel maps to get a feel for what this bike could really do ,,,, So I offered the cheapest way out. It was good for us all. My joy was in there first ride, that was really all the payment I needed. Truly Awesome.

Guys I did not ever brag this flash up to anyone and would only talk about it to those who have it installed. After they try it I'm all ears and can't wait to hear their thoughts and impressions. I'm honored that most feel as I do afterwards. "This Mod Is A Difference You Can Feel".

I only offer this flash here as you guys know me. I'm not pushing this and do not have any sales pitch for any one.
On this Flash, it's your opinions that give me joy out of doing this. If it ever becomes trouble I will do it no more.

Hub Brian has a Exact decoded Copy. It is his property. I only asked that he keep it to himself. As Brian can see inside my flash that is No Copy Paste And Took Me Months to build. I'm very happy he likes it.

Anyway just thought I would share a little of where I was coming from. Cheers.

^^

Yup, that's true- I sought out Rick- he certainly didn't try to sell me anything. I am very happy with the way it worked out, especially with me being in such a remote spot (a small island off the southeast coast- yes, a 14R here is like shooting squirrels with a bazooka, but there's a ferry to the mainland)- when I first read about ECU flashing last year, I never thought I'd be able to do it it without sending my ECU out of the country (which I didn't want to do)- now I've got a bitchin' map, the ability to make changes to it, and a tuner who I know will offer help and advice if I need it- great stuff.

Now I just need some time off from business and family obligations to head north to some amazing riding areas- the Samoeng Loop is calling my name.

And Justin would like to start and built a bin file on his site so others can run it or not. To me, that's open source. If I made a peppy map, I'd send it off to Justin, who cares, 65,000 more flashes to go before you cracked the crystal so many times or whatever it does till it flashes no more?

Hey Romans, how do I get my grubby hands on your reflash? Do you fix the secondary flies problem? Is it for stock bikes, or for slip-ons/full exhaust?

Thanks in advance :)
