Noticeably heavier...but not terribly. My other(carbon) is 1250 gms.New lid...A bit lighter than my Arai Profile Force. The fitment really is better than the CF one.Course, this one is carbon fiber as well...just with another shell of something else added in.Very very comfy.

Was just checking out some of the new Shoei lids today - do they come with chin curtains? Noticed that none of the ones that I looked at had em in, works wonders for not lettin' cold air in on ya... Kinda seals the helmet around your head...

Geez Rook...that's a VERY HARD call.69 dollars...yeeesh...IDK...closeout?Vemar's are good helmets.Hmmmmm'''you might want to pass on that deal there though and if you're gonna get a Vemar...spend the extra on an "eclipse"....very well accepted in the race guy's worlds. That 'deal' 'may' be too good to be true there IDK.I'd be cautious. You could probably find a new eclipse at a good price by just checking online.Mine was 400+...good price for the Carbon Matrix deal. She's very nice and has a decent(good) design concerning stability at speed and wind blowing around at the neck.Very comfy.Soft inside, but secure feeling. The minimal weight gain over my full carbon Vemar is actually kind of a plus. This lid does feel slightly more slippery...but I think it's cause the weight isn't allowing it to get blown around as easily.

I think IF you're not noticing something on a particular ride...like "how's this seat feel",or,My helmet feels...."but...I got to keep it angled a certain way when I ride"(you know...fidgeting around while riding)...then it's not okay.I'd say if something really works for you particularly...you won't be 'thinking' about it on the ride...except to smile and know it's doing fine.

You saw that one lid up there on the other page(not the one on this page..though that's a sweet lid also)...that silver Shoei with the teardrop shape?THAT looks like a REALLY NICE helmet...Looks very well designed for speed.I can't find it now...it's here somewhere.

BTW...just a little deal here...Vemar's are known for their wider peripheral vision design...comes in handy when yer doing a head check.Or seein something along the roadside(like a cage startin a turn onto the highway when yer goin by )

I covered those fugly bullseyes with my Shorai stickers...fit perfecto right over em without being standoutish!(that battery is doing REALLY WELL btw).Cranks without any problem and off the charger now for several weeks.

Haven't heard of the model you linked, Rook... The Eclipse has good reviews.

MotorcycleGear.com Vemar closeout helmets

One thing you might wanna consider, though... It is not Snell 2010 certified... Might not pass inspection at track days.

I'm shopping for a new lid too... Always been a Shoei guy, so leaning towards the X-12... But the Bell Star is considered a better lid by many.

Have you seen a better price on any X-12's than this:

$439 - Shoei X-12 Kagayama 3 TC-2 (MSRP $839.99)

Anyone?

Anyone that went from an X-11 to an X-12, same sizing?

Just spent ~$350-400 on my RF1100. I'm in the mood for a bargain (as in dirt cheap). I don't need another helmet. have two. #3 is not even high on the "wants" list. Just intrigued with the 6 oz weight reduction.

you might want to pass on that deal there though

I think you are right Grn. I can't say for certain but I think that "closeout" has been on for a coiuple years now. Could swear I saw that a long time ago. Also, most ads for the VSREV list the weight. I notice the 69er does NOT. May be some sorta cheapened nonCF version?

The Eclipse is just a fraction of an ounce lighter from ads I saw.

One thing you might wanna consider, though... It is not Snell 2010 certified... Might not pass inspection at track days.
Yeah. Also I see from the vid you posted that some Vemars are a composite of CF and other materials. Vemar is making a full CF helmet and that would be the ultimate in light weight. That must be something like Grn's older lid. If that blows away the composites, I think I'd have to go with that or nothin.

That X-12 is a really cool lid.

Dogo,

I just bought the X12 Martyr for the same price. I came from an XL RF1000. The X12 is and XL as well. It's just a tad more snug than the RF, but not uncomfortably so. Unbelievable quality. Super quiet (even at 100!). Great air flow. Just can't go wrong with this one!

Ogre...My X12 is LOUD as hell! It is also my first Shoei, so I'm not comparing it to other Shoei's. I came from a Scorpion Exo-1000 and I thought that was loud until I got my X12. I wear earplugs so the noise isn't an issue, although with the visor up running around town the helmet whistles pretty loud.

My last three Shoei Helmets have all been the same size. They just seem to break in so nice. No change in size for me.

My X12 is LOUD as hell! It is also my first Shoei, so I'm not comparing it to other Shoei's.

Cons; When I first got the X-12 it made a siren noise like a fire truck. Couple times I started to pull over. Only happened when you turned your head lol. I guess the Extra vents come at a cost. Cool head comes by the way of more holes and thus more noise. boooo

Pros; This Helmet has the Best High Speed Manners out of any Shoei I have ever owned. She is a Wow Wow wow in this area. Five Star in the wind tunnel. Must be. I never hear anyone mention this, Not sure why. Pop your head up over visor and look back or left right. This test will make you a Shoei X-12 fan. For this one reason alone worth the doe.

Regrets; Wish I paid 439

I have an RF-1100 so can really speak for the X12, but from what I can read Shoei need to work on noise. Also, their helmets fog up too easily and their visors are expensive.
My RF-1100 is noisy, especially when I turn my head like some mentioned. I'm tossing the thing as soon as I get my 4th helmet. My first was an HJC and I'm not a big fan either but... IMHO, either get something like an HJC or around that price or step up big time and go X12 or Corsair V. In that price range it's hard to be disappointed.
I'm bias on the Corsair V. The visor changes can take a while to get used to but if you leave the same visor on the helmet for a while it'll take that rounded shape and be easier to install. Also I shoot the mechanism with some silicone and it makes it better. The Corsair V is really quiet and super comfortable, don't fog easily and the visors aren't as expensive as the shoei's. Their anti fog pin lock works extremely well too. I've go this one

More importantly, check the head shape a specific model is designed for. I think the Corsair V suits medium oval which is most north americans head shape!
