NASCAR on FUX
02/14/15 8:42 PM

I used to be a NASCAR fan, back when it was sponsored by Winston. When Nextel took over it was obvious about the whole image changes and crap. The final line in the sand for me was the COT, or Car of Tomorrow. A ridiculously looking thing which wasn't based on any make/model. Anyway I know they dumped the COT in the last couple years, so I thought I'd watch the Unlimited tonight, a 75 lap non-point race basically for glory. Some of the same drivers, some new to me. Gordon apparently is retiring this year.

At any rate, the racing was ok, a few good wrecks to boot. FUX's coverage was pretty good. But the worst thing is their commentators. Most of you, even if never really NASCAR fans know the name Waltrip. Darrell had become a commentator several years ago. This guy is Captain Obvious. It boggles my mind that Darrell can seem so confident that he's being insightful by stating what is obviously happening at that moment in time during the race. Then of course, something he offered his insight on he reverses himself the next lap when some other thing happens.

It looks like Michael Waltrip is getting to be more prominent as an announcer too. Michael is very different from Darrell, except for the babbling. It's just his voice it's just spine tingling annoying and his comments are just as stupid as Darrell's but not quite in the same way.

The rest of them would be much better without the Waltrips IMO. Larry McReynolds was a former crew chief, never really too successful even as crew chief for Dale Earnhardt. But as far as offering insight his contributions are so much more than both Waltrips combined.

I was never a fan of Darrell coming on as some connection to the past with the changes that were happening in NASCAR. Sure he has some personality, but FFS about enough to anchor an entire broadcast based on that. LOL I remember getting so annoyed with the piss poor commentary watching the race and listening to TRN's coverage. Not sure I'll get back into it but these bozos still being around is definitely a detractor for me.

Nascar is an absolute mystery to Australians.
Cars going around and around an oval track and turning left only.
Boring as.
Just can't see the entertainment?
But then we love our cricket where a game can go for 5 days and still end in a draw!

So much for our credibility...

The only car racing I like is F1 and drag racing. Bikes on the other hand, I like it all.

Sprint cars are like top fuel dragsters, in that you really need to see them perform in person to appreciate the sheer bravery required to drive those monsters. They are the very definition of badass.

I always liked hot rods and basically NASCAR cars were one venue of evolution of the street muscle car. V8, open exhaust, 800+ hp, rednecks, beer, women, GM vs. Ford vs. Dodge etc... what wasn't there to like? Obviously modern era race cars don't have much to do with showroom cars, but it wasn't long ago that they literally had to have body's that fit templates of the showroom cars.

Heck it's kind of stupid (no offense) for you guys to like sprint cars but then not NASCAR. Most Sprint Car drivers would trade their mother to be in NASCAR, and a lot of NASCAR drivers came up through sprints.

Nascar was much better served, fundamentally, when everyone was forced to buy off the showroom floor once a team chose a manufacturer.

We, the Joe A consumer, realized wonderful factory options in the late 60s, early 70s as a result of Nascar involvement.

The term "stock car" is laughable at this point from driveline configuration consideration alone.

Agreed, and most NASCAR drivers wish they could go back to racing sprint cars.

I've been fortunate enough to attend many different types of races from Nascar to motorized bathtubs and in my opinion nothing even comes close to sprint cars. They come around our area dirt tracks a few times a year and I get just as excited as I did when I was a little kid.

I grew up on the dirt oval. Nothing in the world gets my panties wetter than the roaring thunder of 20-30 sprint cars at the start of a race! Lots of family and friends that race on dirt, everything from shitboxes to mods to full blown outlaw sprints, I'm the only odd one that races on asphalt and in a straight line lol. Previous photo is a pic of my cousin.

I think the plan is to head your way this summer nasty. Hopefully we can find a sprint car race to go to. Only the best go four abreast!

They were 4 wide in turn 3 and 4 at what 190 mph in the race Saturday night. I imagine most of the sprint car guys you'd watch would be crapping their pants at that point.

I grew up around racing of course always liked circle track we had a 3/8-1/2 mile asphalt oval and I think it was 1/8th mile dirt oval. As a kid, it was cool to watch. One of my brothers got into racing himself and even raced open wheeled modified, driving for a team. He always dreamed of course of moving up. But like most people didn't get an early enough start, ultimately didn't have the time or talent needed to do so.

Most people I knew that were fans of circle track liked NASCAR. It was just the natural evolution of the sport. If you liked circle track you liked circle track and the same drivers that are NASCAR professionals came from go karts to dirt and cement ovals working their way up through the ranks. Other than jealous idiots, which is often quite common mentalities among immature people that think they "are as good as" people were really soured by the people that made it. Granted, I can see where some drivers get in by name (DE Jr, Kyle Petty) but most drivers work their way up, they aren't gravy trainers.

Same thing with softball guy that got screwed over by his high school coach. Same thing with Mr. Sparks elite squid at that thinks cause he can run a fast lap at a track or two. Same as Uncle Rico who if coach would've put him in. Same as Karaoke person that are decent karaoke singers and believe they can do what superstar singers do because they sing a few karaoke songs. All woulda-coulda-shouldas. All people that live a life of jealousy, all believing they just didn't get their chance and lack any ability to appreciate the talent of those that made it. What a miserable existence, to wake up everyday thinking you were gypped out of your chance to make it!

Two things are said to be certain in life, death and taxes. Along with those 2 things, I assert there should be a third, idiots. The 3 things we can be certain of in life is death, taxes, and idiots. Goddamn the idiots......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................(...)
